4870 and 4850 info

It's all very well but they are not going up against the current 8800/9800 series (well maybe they will be on price). They will be up against the GTX2xx series. Although, if this is to be believed then Nvidias new cards may not be that good.

If these ATI/AMD cards come out at the price point that everyone thinks they will along with decent performance then we may see some decent competition for Nvidia at last.
 
I think that is better than we expected. Depending on how well it will be priced i am thinking of getting a 4870. We also need more information though, tests made in more games and how much will those beauties OC.
Also seeing some performance charts for the GT260 and GT280 i think ATI will make bundles of cash with this. Imagine what the R700 will be capable of doing!
Well everyone will benefit from this since Nvidia will probably will making something better to counter ATI's product line.
 
If the improvement over the 9800 GTX is by as much as they say and the price is nice and low like amd have been showing with previous cards then Nvidia are gonna get a little worried. but as theforce has said it looks like we need to see some more GT280/260 charts before making a decision, either way it looks good for gamers!
 
WOW... with the 9800GTX running Crysis at 1920x1200 with 4xAA at what, 8fps, we can now be looking upwards of 14fps... jesus christ, woopy do for the new cards...

The fact remains, people WON'T get excited over these cards (and even if you don't rate the game or not), IF THEY DON'T run Crysis, top resolution at 40fps+ with at least 4xAA and 8xAF... if they don't then sorry, what's the point? New Gen cards that can't even run a 6 months old game for petes sake! What happens when the NEW GEN Games come out? We'll still be playing catchup with what are basically still underpowered cards... if every 3d'er used the Crytek engine, we'd be screwed rofl

or am I being pesimistic?

I don't believe internal benchies, as of course they are going to show their cards to be better, you think they will do some internal benchies, then lob a graph up showing their cards getting whipped, even if they do, me neither, we had Nvidia's the other week, now its AMD's. :D

So you actually think next gen cards are 'pointless' if they don't run crysis 500% faster than the previous gen? :eek: That's extremely unrealistic if you ask anyone.

Crysis is known for being hard to run, or in English, terribly optimised. Now that Crytek aren't 'supporting' it anymore either, it's hardly gonna get any better if and when Warhead comes out, and it's a pretty big 'if' too.

Most people don't care about crysis (or more appropriately crymark), basically every other game will run maxed at high res with lots of AA and AF on these new cards, so I personally don't care what they get in Crysis.

Remember all those 'new gen' games that came out? Bioshock, Gears of War, Unreal 3 and so on.

These all look amazingly good, and run extremely good on old hardware, crysis shouldn't be used to define if a graphics card is good or not, more next gen games coming out will be gradually looking as good as, or possibly better than crysis, yet they'll most probably need less power than crysis.

Why shocked, theres absolutely loads of people who base these new cards on that one single game, if it still doesn't break 60fps, then they wont be buying them, as in their eyes, they are pointless and crap cards. :)

No I say that people won't get excited over a new card if it Can't run the last previous best selling game and graphics fest properly, that's all. I personally, don't rate Crysis... but it's not just Crysis...

The fact is, when the 8800 series came out, there wasn't a game that wouldn't run at the highest res's... so everyone KNEW they were getting a massive leap in performance... this time around to be saying we're getting 40% increase in games with new cards, to me, isn't enough... which is why I bought anothe r8800GT to tide me over for now... however, to get a 100% increase in Crysis and be getting 16fps is pathteic, simple as that, People wnat to know that when spending upward of £500 notes, they're going to be getting that 500% increase, as then they'll know that ATI/NVIDIA have actually looked at a game, and though hold on, we need somethign powerful enough to run it... not just we'll hold back on the tech, churn out a load of new cards that aren't as fast as they should be...

Bear in mind, COD4 doesn't run tip top at 1920x1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF on a single card... yes, playable and smooth, but not silky... what happens with COD5 and 6 when they come out if the cards are already playing catchup? Dirt is another example, Hellgate London is another I could go on... but these games HAVE TO RUN significantly faster!

To assume MOST people don't care about Crysis is blinkered, because CRYSIS is THE graphics benchmark, and I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who love the game, OTHERWISE IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A NO.1 BEST SELLER WOULD IT?

Yea you are being pesimistic as those are not the top of the range amd card. Also i wish people would stop using crysis as the only game to judge these new cards against as its not the only game people play. These cards are in the mid-high end sector and by the looks of it both of them will comfortably beat a 9800gtx and i say this because going by the 4850 vs a 8800gt benchmark i don't think the 9800gtx would have that kind of margin over a 8800gt. I don't think the 4870 will be to far away from the performance of the 9800gx2 either. All looks good to me for the amount of money i want to spend on my next gc.

I hope everything I've said is incorrect, I really do, and can't wait to see how these new cards perform... however, what I'm trying to say is, I'm not that overly excited by what I'm seeing specwise or performance wise at the moment, so lets fingers crossed and see what happens with true benchies and when one of us gets hold of one...
 
My last criteria for a video card was being able to run Bioshock at 1900x1200, which my 8800GT does nicely. Next criteria is CoJ DX10 at that resolution (I didn't buy Crysis as I thought that the Demo was probably going to be as good as the game got). Everything else I've tried runs fine.

I'll only consider lesser cards for an upgrade if it works out very cheap or free for me to do so.
