Anyone else hate car hunting?

I would want Widescreen NAV in a 3 series, be that with the car or me fit it afterwards.

I do agree that an aftermarket HU in the 3 series dash looks horrid, it spoils the lines of the dash and regardless of unit non seem to look correct.

You've made that point perhaps 4 times now. I get the picture, rg-tom should clearly spend the next year searching for a car with his ultra rare selection of options simply becuase if he fitted an aftermarket radio it would 'look crap'

Perhaps more crap than the empty space on his drive where a 330i Sport would be if he just... didnt bother with nav.

You've made the opposing point the same number of times. Do you not have to abide by the same rules?

I said above that a CarPC would do, retrofitted nav would do, and the stock HU would do.

Not ONCE have I said wait for the rare car he is waiting for.

Why rush in to buying something that's not what he wants though?

Becuase there is buying what you want and there is spending months chasing a Unicorn.

Obviously buying a 320i Sport instead would be stupid but come on, getting THIS fussy over fitted options?

At the risk of pushing this thread completely off topic, why on earth would you want a PC in your car? It seems a bit of an OTT thing to do if you want to play some music and have navigation!

It hardly looks fanastic, does it? It looks blatantly non OEM.

Just as an aftermarket HU looks.

There. It doesn't look great, I agree. But it doesn't look so bad you'd cut your arm off, send £1k more on the car or wait an extra half a year simply to avoid it. It's acceptable. It'd look even more acceptable with a better choice of HU than that.

My point is that due to the way the E46 has a single DIN sized hole like that, aftermarket HU's are a far more reasonable idea than they are on the E39 which has a huge massive space.

You seem so hung up on the look of just one thing yet seem content to drive cars with utterly crap interiors - I don't understand it, either you are asthetically fussy or you are not. Seems you put up with crapness yourself but fight to death against it on the internet. How strange.

Please stop using the words bobbins and guff. This is a family forum and its offending me.

I agree with Fox, OP should be careful not to pass up a bargain just because it is missing the sat nav.

I'd rather sacrifice a little bit of aesthetics in return for sound quality, versatility, etc, but that's just me :)

Which is my point. My point isnt 'Lol aftermarket rocks' its..

a) Aftermarket is not so bad that it's worth spending £1000 extra to avoid it
b) Aftermarket is not so bad that its worth waiting an extra 6 months to avoid it.

And yea, bobbins is a retarded word.

Alpine isn't it? Stop looking at the HU it was the mounting method I was pointing out. There are 100,000,000 different HU's to chose from.

I can't believe this thread is full of people who drive cars with absolutely crap interiors being totally anal about one little detail in an otherwise nice interior. It's bizarre, if you all care about the little details that much why not practice what you preach :p

I dont think it looks good, I just dont think it looks £1000 or 6 months WORSE than the nav.

Yea it's Alpine but whatever still an aftermarket job with a silly amount of lights and buttons.

Difference is this is an expensive car with a nice interior. Why make it look chavtastic with a nasty headunit. OEM *** in a car like that.

Becuase he will have to spend ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to retrofit the nav, or wait lots longer to find a car, which will then be itself more expensive than the car without the nav?

This is the point everyone seems to be missing. I don't disagree it doesnt look quite right, my point isnt that it looks amazing its that it doesnt look crap enough to be worth spending a grand more to fix or wasting 6 months finding the car with the impossible spec.

god what have i started! lol

Basically, despite you thinking the none nav dash looks "ok", i personally can't stand it. To the point where i dont actually want a 330i without nav. just like i dont want a 325, or an SE........ie i'm not going to buy one unless the price is cheap enough for me to retrofit it and still be looking at a decent price for the car inc that. I'm NOT gonna spend £9k on a car when i dont like it.

Rational? Probably not, but it's my choice to have to wait
