For that sort of price i would expect the cable to be surrounded by an inch of lead shielding to block any interference caused by a nearby nuclear explosion.

Ah yes, forget the 18 miles of 1930's cable buried in the ground for 70 years between you and the power station, its the last 1.5m that makes all the difference !

Isn't there some hi fi speaker cables for around £10,000 and James Randi has put a lot of money up for people to prove they're any better than cheap cables?

I went to a pensioners house today to install her new DVD player to the TV.
The nice men in Comet sold her a SCART cable for £60.
I put my £2 lead in to show her there was no difference.

Update

James Randi has offered 1 million dollars for anybody who can prove that expensive cables are better than cheap cables.

you can get audio equipment that uses CAT5 instead of phono, SPIDF or toslink
