Project 'sillyteg'

Sounds like headgasket as the first cause, although the water pass through on the inlet manifold can leak water into cylinder 4 if the gasket isnt sealing properly.

Unlucky mate :(, just to echo what everybody else has said, don't give up. I know the feeling, i seem to have the same luck with building PCs.

jsut read through this thread and really cant believe how much that car has been through! Please dont sell it off it will be wroth while once its finished and all the bugs are ironed out.

Besides im learning a lot reading through these kind of threads.

Keep on it Drex, it wouldnt be a project without a few twists and turns. Been there and done that, it was all worth it in the end for me. It's still making me grin like an idiot 12 months on!

You've already done most of the hard work, get it fixed and enjoy it as you intended. :)

When I turbo'd my Civic it lasted about a week before the lands went on the pistons.

I didnt have much luck either, lots of problems after it was rebuilt and mapped.

Whats been done to the engine?

I had new pistons, rods, head studs, 0.5mm over bore, compression dropped to 9:1, cost me about £2k all in for parts and labour, mine pushed all its oil passed the pistons not white smoke.

The more I think about it the less I want to give up, I have spent so much time and money on it I just want to see it through, I know it will be awesome when it's done. But it's just so disheartening being so close then something like this happening :(

The thing is it'll probably be a while now before I can sort it, I've basically ran out of cash as far as this project goes, I had the money aside for mapping and that's it.... :(

I think what I'll have do is SORN it and it'll just be a slow project that gets done as and when I have the cash to spare.

Gutting that you have to stick it on the back burner, but its 100x better than giving up totally.

Are you going to see if you can diagnose the problem soon, or are you going to put that off for a while (don't blame you if you do)?

Sell the whole thing, buy a decent Subaru, and stop faffing about. RX7, now this, they've all been nightmares.

Just get a nice Scoob and be happy.

I'll probably just do a compression test over the weekend at some point, I don't feel like tearing it apart yet.

Wish I'd kept that Scoob. It never gave me any problems. Ever.

:(

Without doing something like this i guess you can't appreciate the fun of building a project like this Fox, fair enough its a pain when things go wrong but you need to take the ruff with the smooth.

Not everyone wants an off the shelf car.

Thats the trouble with modified cars like this, reliability can be an issue.

Keep going with it though, hope you get it sorted. When finished it will be a beast. With just 235bhp in my Civic I could beat scoobys and evo's all day with a rolling start.
