I'm starting a new job on MOnday. Previously I've always taken the money instead of a company car. But with my car getting older and fuel prices rising I'm thinking about taking the car at the new place. I currently have a 2.8 V6 4Mo Golf and just don't need something so expensive to run.

The car allowance is about £4500-ish a year but I don't have any idea on company car tax, etc. I have a family (2 kids, wife) and so need something with 4 doors and a reasonable boot. But petrol/diesel costs are important as I can only see prices rising.

Any recommendations on make/model?

£4500 on a lease with full maintance/no milage limit/insurance included is going to be something like a new Vectra or Mondeo or a high spec Astra diesel. That was the kind of things you could get through Lex with my place (well not the Mondeo as we are GM only).

4500 a year is not a lot of money when it comes to leasing a car,

MONDEOOOOOOOO tbh

£375 is quite a good amount really. How flexible is your new company with car choice? Some will only allow a certain list / model to pick from.

What is it with the Mondeo bumming on this forum? Its the most boring car in the world, you would just be another of millions already on the roads, also Ford = Fix Or Repair Daily. Have some imagination people and recommend a decent car.

Becuase the Mondeo is the best average car on the market - he's chosing a company car. Not a Lotus Elise for the weekends. Not a Nissan Skyline for some illicit street racing. He wants a company car for sitting on the Motorway, driving for work and being efficient on tax.

Frankly the Mondeo does this in a way no rival can beat in the sub premium market. Infact the latest one is so good that's virtually as good as the BMW 3 Series from the class above.

Put your badge snobbery and prejudice to one side, the new Mondeo is an absolutely excellent car.

And with the greatest amount of respect, you drive a car thats only a badge away from a Vauxhall Vectra - a car which was frankly so average only its quirkyness and the fact it appealed to people becuase it wasn't German rather than becuase it was any good (Which at anything other than going reasonably quickly in a straight line it wasnt, compared to similar priced alternatives when new) helped it survive.

And what would you suggest with the cost constraints he has listed?

Your saying if your not buying a boy racer car you have to get a Mondeo?

So you have driven a Saab and done extensive research to back this up with facts? Trust me the older 9-5 are a million miles away from vauxhall tat.

I wouldnt have a Mondeo if they were giving them away.

How about a Lexus?
