Fiesta ST, stupidly fast cars and look the dogs nuts

A Fiesta ST is stupidly fast now?!

Damn by 197 must be hyper fast if thats the case.

As for the ops question:

You won't get a Swift sport of Renault sportTwingo (which isn't out yet) in price range. The best option is probably a early clio 182 with cup packs. (or a late 172 non cup).

Mildly warm considering the other cars mentioned in the thread. Struggle to get one for £6K.
The torque that it has makes it feel so much quicker than it is, they're easy to bring up to 180/190BHP and handle fantastically, i'd get one if it wasn't for insurance costs, instead i'm getting a MK5 Fiesta Zetec-s which should be a fun little b-road car.

Its fast for the size of the car, BHP isn't everything, it's how it puts it down to the ground. And yes probably jumping out of a knackered escort and into a Fiesta ST was probably why it felt so quick but after driving it for a while a had a big smile planted on my face and i enjoyed it more than my previous encounter with a porsche which i found a bit dull.

A Fiesta ST is marginally quicker than my astra. On the motorway the astra will pass it, and has done.

Its quickish and thats about it. It has a good chassis which deserves more power but unfortunately compared to a 182 cup (which is in the same price range) it is simply outclassed.

Only just noticed theres all these new replies! Cheers folks!

LCR.. nice cars, but possibly a bit big and soft for what I want, and if I'm paying 6k I want a bit of a "new car" feel as sorry to say 6k is a lot of dosh to me :) Something newish, low mile would be ideal as I doubt I'll ever spend more on a car as it's almost time to settle down with the missus also. But then again, quality performance and new car low mile feel for 6k aint gonna really happen I guess :(

Have to admit, I have been looking @ Fiesta ST's... Really do like the look of them, it'd HAVE to be white with blue side stripes though and complete exhaust change and induction kit which I guess I could do over time anyway to stick it nearer Clio performance levels.

Also, didn't quite realise how much car tax will be for some of the cars I've been looking at, forgot all about checking it haha. Quite obscene @ 300ish a year for most in the coming years, Fiesta ST seems a little cheaper. Much milder performance I guess but been reading about the mountune cars and if I had one I'd modify it a little anyway (suspension, breathing mods at least) and if I'm keeping the car a while it might pay off having a newer Fiesta and doing a few bits to it?

Sounds nasty people blowing engines up lol hope it's all good soon!

That Ibiza is local to me also, but never, ever having a red car ever again. I have one now and it's the worst bit about the car. I just think Ibizas look a little dated now :( And I'm not convinced I'd enjoy the power delivery after experiencing my friends in both standard and remapped tune.

The ST isn't hard to take up 180bhp, i believe the last of the line ones actually did have the better cams and 180bhp and came out the best in a group test.

I hate renaults with a passion and it is as ugly as sin. I'm not blindly following the ST its just that i've enjoyed my experience with one.

Does seem to have the cheapest tax, insurance and one of the nicest looking cars I've been looking at to me... Guess I've got to be certain I can deal with the running costs of the lot really over a few years. Tax for the Fiesta in 2010 will be £210/year which is alright... Just have to make my own improvements performance wise lol. I might go look at one close up one day soon!

£6000 will get you one with average milage. enhancements aren't that expensive, a powerflow exhaust was fitted for £350 all in, on my mates ST which i thought wasn't too bad and made a difference.

The Fiesta ST is ok as a car, it's quicker than most people give it credit for, but on the other side of the coin it's not quick enough. Has pretty poor fuel consumption and not as easy to tune as many would like to make out, has some major flaws and the level of kit is pretty low too (sure it's getting on a bit now but when it was facelifted it was the perfect opportunity to add things such as cruise control and xenons but weren't).

It's not a bad car by any stretch of the imagination but there are better choices out there imo

2001 or later S3, you could easily beat a asking price of 7-8k down to 6-6.5k.

You get good performance, 4wd, options and quality.

Been thinking about this and the more I think about it the more I think get a minter of a car around 2000-2001 reg (i.e. the cheaper tax - 185/year for over 1549cc)

Seem to be looking at Clio phase 1 172's (gash interior) and Ibiza Cupra 20vt's and I'd remap it for 200BHP if it aint done already.

Can't think of a great deal of other things which fit and are quite reliable and solid motors around the same age and with the same performance.

Cheaper car could mean more money to chuck in the fuel tank to actually enjoy the thing!!

Which would you choose and why? :p

Integra Type R DC2. Dont worry about the age, as long as its been looked after and the body work is good they will last forever, I have seen one with 175,000 miles and still running strong despite revving to 9000rpm.

They are quicker than a clio with 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14.5 @ 102mph.

Only down side is motorway cruising, 70mph is 4500rpm although I happily drove mine as far as blackpool and back in one night doing over 70 some of the way.

Best fwd drivers car says it all really.

Beware of poor mods, the standard airbox on Honda's is very good and changing it to some silly filter can actually cost you power, only upgrade from standard is something like the Mugen airbox but they are £500.

I have owned 2 Integra's and liked them both. Some 2000 models in black and red can be bargains.
