A tale of Speeding, coppers, and licences

Did you not read the post ?, the font was so big I actually got out of my chair and proceeded to read it from the other side of my room :p.

because he could have checked the site it's like 4 days tops :/

"Why have you left it this long? If you'd called the DVLA immediately then you'd have had a replacement by now."

Yeah it's obvious with a little research he could have found that out but you wanted to know why he waited so long, and that was because he presumed it would've taken allot longer than that to process (as stipulated in the OP), someone telling you that he would've actually been issued with an immediate replacement after you've already exceeded the time frame in which to produce the license doesn't change the explanation as to why he didn't do it in the first place.

I dunno if i was told i needed a license in 7 days or go to court I'd be ringing the DVLA as soon as i got back home, not going ahh well best leave it for 6 days till theres absolutely no chance of getting it and try and blag my way through.

What's your problem? You were speeding. You were caught. No doubt you were cautioned at the scene, and the relevant reports have been made by the Police Officer. He was speaking to you, cautioned you and noted your vehicle details, and the speed detection etc.

You can't just get off with this by having a slightly wrong road name written on the ticket. If pointed out in court, the police officer will simply say it was a slight mistake, and the magistrate will move onto the next question.

What's so sinister? Are you seriously saying that in your job you have never made a spelling error/wrote the wrong thing down on a piece of paper? By extending your deadline the police in your local station have actually stopped you from committing a further offence..

yeah so would I, I'm not defending him, it's just you have the answer to your original question already in the post, I guess what you wanted to say was "dude you was silly not for checking how long it would've taken to get a replacement", which actually I'm going to say now,

dude you was silly for not checking how long it would've taken to get a replacement !

If they fill the form in wrong isn't it void?

Despite what paradigm says, no, not exactly. All the policeman has to do is write a statement to the court saying: "In my statement I refer to Broombank Road. This should instead read Broomhill Road". 99 times out of 100 the court will accept this and the ticket will stand. The courts accept that people make mistakes. However, often the police will stop proceeding with the case as it might blow up in their face.

A pig is a rather nice animal, quite friendly. I am sure he will like the comparison.

You were going to fast and got caught. Deal with it. You can pay your fine or go to court. You cannot process it without a licence and the wrong road will likely make no difference as Meridian says.

If you do get off on a technicality then good luck, otherwise deal with the fact that you have broken the law which the cops is paid to enforce.

Maybe it's so he had an excuse not to surrender his license in an attempt to get off with his crime ;)

Have IQ's suddenly dropped sharply?

There I am, in the Police station, with every document bar my licence, asking the police officer to do his job do whatever is neccessary, when my father notices a mistake, brings it to the attention of the officer, and the officer behaves strangely and gets me an extention, where before he was just being a ****.

The question was not "Can I get away with this?" but rather "Did his behaviour change because they knew they'd messed up?".

Stop trying to wiggle out of it and take the fine.

Same with these two.

I have not seen my licence for about 6 years now and have only just today posted away the form to get my photo licence as the orignal was paper.

I havge been stopped a few times for , "just a routine check sir", and when asked to produce my licence I qouted them my licence number and explained that I dont have my paper one to hand and will not be able to produce it. After a check back at the police car I gave them further ID and that was it. There is no legal requiremnt as far as I know that says you have to carry your licence with you.

Evidently. How did you want them to process your licence? Maybe you could have done one up in MS Paint and handed it in for to be endorsed.

It makes no difference to the guy on the front desk whether the wrong thing is written on the form. Perhaps he just noticed the issuing officer was on duty, and went and asked him/his superior for permission to give you more time to produce?

If you speed, you need to produce your full driving licence for points to be added. Its simply the way its done. It's your fault for 1. Speeding 2. Not having your driving licence to hand 3. Having a serious attitude problem

There is no legal requirement for you to carry your driving licence with you, but you must have it to hand to be able to produce it at a police station when requested to do so.

I don't have to justify myself to unknown keyboard warriors. The story is the story, and the thread is the thread. Get out if you don't want to answer the original question in a constructive fashion.

You've been caught out because you misread the OP and jumped on the bandwagon which developed in the thread. Typical OCUK thread trend.
