Motherboard standoffs

I recently installed a motherboard however I was unsure where to place the small cardboard hoops. I installed the brass standoffs onto the case, and then the silver standoffs to secure the motherboard. Will this be ok?

Should be fine, when you install these standoffs look in the base of the case. Mine chase had 'Atx' inprinted into the correct spaces to screw the standoffs into. As long as there in the right places your fine. The system wouldnt post if it was shorting out.

They can go between the standoffs and the motherboard. Personally I never bother to place them and never have.

What is their purpose anyway?

they are like washers and stop you from damaging the board when you tighten it down.

So nothing to do with it preventing the motherboard from shorting?

Not really, the washers go on top of the board not underneath. the stand-offs stop the shorting out.

I've never used them and never had any issues.

Same here. Tried once, too fiddly, didnt bother anymore.
