I got part of the stock exhaust setup on my E39 M5 replaced on Saturday with some goodies from SuperSprint.

  • New race mufflers (2 * twin tips - 70mm each)
  • X-Pipe centre section to replace the stock centre pipe and resonator
  • Kept stock cats + manifolds

I think it sounds absolutely amazing from the outside, a lot more purposeful than the OEM system (unfortauntely it didn't occur to me to get a clip from before to compare).

I let someone else drive it last night while I stood by the side of the road and the sound on full throttle acceleration through the gears is fantastic. There's also a nice subtle burble on gear changes as the revs drop.

The only problem with it really is that it drones at certain frequencies. In this case, at about 1500-2000 rpm, which means that while fine on the motorway, it's a bit of a pain at lower speeds. The stock system resonated a little at those speeds on full throttle in a high gear, but the SuperSprint amplifies this sound. I might get the x-pipe swapped back out for the OEM resonator at some point to see if this makes much difference, but for the time being will leave it as is!

Obligatory noise clip:

P.s, I know the ring sticker is at a funny angle, it went on in a hurry in the snow! I have another to reposition it when I get round to it...

I just love the sound of the E39 M5, adding a zorst really does make it sound 'supercar'...

Resonance wise, the Milltek my brother has on his seems OK, although he did get once of the silencers replaced due to baffle's rattling...
