Should i buy an XBOX 360?

Being a PC gamer at heart, can i get a keyboard/mouse combo for a 360?

If you're into PC games and have a decent PC I wouldn't bother with a 360.

I bought an elite last xmas, but hardly use it, mainly because its too noisey, you have to pay to play online and half the games come out later on PC looking and playing better. Its also current being repaired as it died despite its minimal use.

The whole PS3 is too expensive arguement is silly. PS3 isn't that much more than an elite.

PS3 - £289.99
360 Elite- £249.99

Not much of a difference and the PS3's build quality is far superior to the 360's.

I'd say go for the 360 though, more pick up and play games. If you have kids, getting a ps3 for MGS4 might be a problem, you really need to set time aside for that game. If you're a pc gamer, than just stick to pc gaming, most top 360 games are on the pc anyway.

My PS3 has a lot more use than both my 360 and Wii combined, probably because my 360 is now a brick and the Wii only had a few good games.

The Elites are ridiculously overpriced and still cheaper than a PS3, which is an issue. No one needs an Elite, they offer nothing over a Pro other than being a horrible black colour and having more HDD space, something which isn't necessary on Xbox360.

Everyone is making assumptions that it needs to install, it could well and most likely will be separated into 2 different areas, one disc could be career, another disc be arcade/online/time-trials/challenges.

you can use a mouse and keyboard with the 360 - a board member on here has the XFPS adaptor and by all accounts it works a treat.

google xbox 360 XFPS if you want a mouse a keyboard to work properly on your 360

If you like your games then chances are it'll be one of the best purchases you'll ever make.

What do people think about Elite or Arcade pack's? - go for a pro (same as reasons above)
What about waitin' for Blu-ray drives on the 360? - if blu-ray is a big deal to you then save up for a PS3
Are they really that noisy (360's) generally? - noisiest console Ive had (only when playing games), no biggie tho.
Do the fan's fail? - never heard of em failing
What about the separate HD drive? - see above
Whats a good price to pay for these consoles? - sorry, dunno these days
Being a PC gamer at heart, can i get a keyboard/mouse combo for a 360? - Not natively (I dont miss the kb/mouse combo as Im a couch potato :) )

I would like to stress if you intend to play games with the kids around think carefully as both the 360 and PS3 have a large selection of games especially the better ones (GOW, GTA4, Bioshock) which aren't suitable for children viewing.

I had a 360 for about 8 months but found most of the decent games just weren't suitable and as the wife watches TV in the evening my play time & the choice of games was extremely limited. Now I have a PS3 the option isn't much better but I have found Sony have a few exclusives that I'm interested in and are more suitable for the kids (Buzz & LBP).

It may not be a big deal to you, but if it is it's something to bear in mind when you go to buy...

I'd actually prefer the black colour :o My white 360 looks like a cheap toy when sat next to my black a/v equipment in my tv stand.

it was mentioned in another thread, the 360 might have more of a back catalogue of games, but when you are out to buy a game, are you going to look at the back catalogue or the new releases, if it's the former, then consider the 360 - it's great, but now the ps3 is outselling the 360, there's a lot of new stuff due out for both, some stuff exclusive to each media so do your homework, PS3 has the bonus of blu ray, it's just one of those decisions you'll have to make yourself - i went for the ps3 :)

Thanks for all those words of wisdom.

As i see it, i've got three options:

1. Buy xbox360 pro.....also good for kids to use.
2. Buy ps3.....Blu-ray a bonus
3. Upgrade Grx on PC ? 8800GTS 512, etc....price vs. performance....

3 may be the best option as i prob wouldn't get much of a chance to use a console as it would need the TV which my lovely wife needs in the evenings for rubbish girls telly and / or Wii Fit!

Ha ha ha!

I have a launch 360 and its still working well, ppl say the fan is noisy and i guess it is but once you start watching a film or playing a game I cant hear the 360 at all. I guess some 360's are noisier than others.

360 has a great line up of games a lot of which are have gone down in prices, its a good games console.

Wait it out if you can, Jasper is being released soon and this may put an end to a lot of te noise and RROD. Implementing a smaller GPU die size = less heat.

You don't think GoW is suitable for a 16 year old? I've been playing games like that since 10 and surprise surprise, I've not killed anyone yet.

Perhaps, but when mentioning kids I personally don't think of 16 year olds, more 2-11 year olds and no I don't think running a chainsaw through someone is suitable for this age range regardless of whether they will do it in real life....

Also this generation imo the games are far more adult themed than in previous generations. Take GTA4 for instance you can't play more than an hour without hearing characters swearing continously even when just driving around :-/

The last thing I want is my 10 year old daughter swearing because she heared it in a video game.
