im currently running vista ultimate X64, however going to do a format this evening because had a few problems and some of my drivers aint working correctly. spent last nite backing everything up but im not sure if using vista is worth it. mainly use my pc for a bit of CCS, some msn chatting the odd PS session and listening to music, but i cant see if there is any reason for me keeping Vista as its a bigger size OS than XP pro.

any reccomendations ? dont really want to dual boot again as i got fed up with it after awhile:D

Personal opinion, if your happy with xp, then your happy with xp, However I can't see why anyone would go back to xp from vista. Vista has so many small things that just makes it so much nicer to use.

well its not the fact that i prefer XP over vista, i was just wondering if for the things i use my pc for i would be better off with XP because its less resource hungary than vista

Personally, I'd go back to XP if you're not enjoying Vista - I did that and haven't regretted it since. I even bought my new Dell laptop with XP, as well as a batch of machines for work.

XP is just as secure as Vista - it's how you use it that makes it secure. XP will be supported until 2011, so you're sorted till Windows 7.

At the end of the day, it's horses for courses really. Some people get on really well with Vista and won't hear a bad word said about it, others have an absolute nightmare with it and go back to XP as soon as they can.

With those specs in your sig, it would be wasted on XP. If you were running 1gb of ram and a lesser processor and GPU, then I wold say go back to xp.

you're worried about resource usage with that spec in your sig? what do you do all day? sit there looking at task manager?

i have a similar spec and love vista x64. i'll never go back. :D

even when i was on single core cpu/2gb ram/vista32, it was still much better than xp. still do what you like. it's your pc afterall. you're the one using it everyday. :)

Ya, your PC is more than enough to not worry about resources.

Personally I use XP64 as my main O/S and on most of my others, but I also got a Vista32 and a Vista64 on a couple of PCs and quite honestly, if its a choice of Vista ( 32 or 64 ) or XP then it must be Vista every time.

Vista or XP64 however, is a different story, but XP32 simply doesnt do it.

I also agree that the arguements of whether XP or Vista is anymore or less reliable and secure than the other is simply a stupid arguement because (a) XP has already proven its stability and reliability and how secure it is and (b) its really too early to say that Vista is anything better or worse than XP.

Of course if you like XP or hell, even if you like 95 or Even WindowsMe, then who the hell is anyone else to tell you otherwise... you use whatever you want... Even if you are wrong :)

vlite + vista64 + sp1

then remove all the crappy components out, install vista, and watch it flyyyyyyyyyy

Seconded, but note:
Vista x64 has some major annoyances too:
Eg. not 100% working games, like vice city, black screen bug is affecting loads of people and I happen to get random freezes of the app itself ( not the whole pc luckily) too.
Much more annoying daddy/mummy like networking, I have no idea yet how to disable the bloody password requirement for remote desktop and for file sharing. I don't use a passy on my account so now I can't share my files or control my pc from my garden/anywhere on the lappy.

But, superfetch is a must imo, especially if you have enough ram, I love my instant loading times for many things :D.
Aero is nicer overall to look at imo than xp, and even though it's so big, it boots ( up to usability) much faster than xp, while xp gets to desktop sooner, it takes longer till it's usable and all bootup rubbish starts. But on vista, once the windows explorer loads, I can open iexplorer or msn or wmp instantly and use it :).
