Do you rinse your dishes?

I know many of you probably use dishwashers, lick the plates clean, use disposable plates etc.

This question is more for those who do in fact do the washing up for the house.

Do you rinse after the washing up liquid? And what's your argument for rinsing / not rinsing?

I'm a rinser. My argument would be, besides not enjoying the fairy liquid flavoured dishes, if you ever fill the sink / bucket with water after washing up, and rinse the dishes without changing the water, you'd observe a fair bit in the water and the bottom of the sink.

My pro-not rinsing argument would be water wastage, especially since I rinse with a running tap. I overcome wastage a bit by plugging the sink when I rinse, and use the rinsed water for washing up the next load.

if im going to use them straight away then rinse, if not then just let it drain.

erm...no. and ive never tasted the washing up liquid on my dishes after drying lol.

i do, however, rinse them after eating off them. it drives me made when people leave plated with congealed gravy or other such substances on the plate in the bowl. seriously just rinse it off, it makes washing up so much more pleasant lol

Off course I rinse...why would you not rinse..surely all the washing up liquid would stay on the dishes...

Yes, i don't use the bowl method, i get a spondge, put washing up liquid in the spondge, and then use that to scrub the dishes. When all the grease and food is gone i run it under the tap so its sparkling.

I am a die-hard rinser. I don't like the taste of dish soap on my food, especially semi-liquid foods like heavy stews and casseroles. I've been sick in the past from dishes that were not sufficiently purged of soap. Though I lost 5 pounds in a day it wasn't a particularly pleasant experience to have whilst backpacking in Middle-of-Nowhere-by-the-Blue-Ridge-Mountains.

i used to rinse before i got a washing machine. Mainly because sometimes i could taste the soap - on glass items it would leave marks etc.

it does wind me up when its done without rinsing but everyone to thier own

Only if you use too much washing up liquid.

I never rinse - we do have an immune system; we won't keel over if the plates aren't 110% sparkling or if we ingest a tiny bit of soap occasionally.

I think I do it the other way round :/

I rinse all the crap off the plates in one bowl of water so there is nothing on them and then clean the bowl and re-fill with washing up liquid and polish them all off.

Am fed up of telling the boyf that by leaving the washing up until we go to bed ensures crustiness of leftovers on plate = harder to wash up!

I do that too. I run a dirty plate under the tap, then stick it in a bowl full of water ready for washing up later. Then only a small amount of washing up liquid is needed and the job is very quick and easy.

Yeah, tricky when living with a flatmate who's willing to help with washing up but doesn't rinse after.

For me it's not just the soap, since all the soap does is breaking down the grease, the grease can still stay on the plates until you rinse it. I've seen so many "washed" plates with bits of floating food that just cling onto the plates via the soap after being washed, and then drying and staying on the plates afterwards.
