Nissan GT-R

It's a lot of car for the money.

I'd like to think so. This may seem like a long list of features that come as standard on modern cars, but I do think people tend to forget the GT-R is nicely specced as standard and not some track-prepped weapon. Some of the more mundane or obvious equipment you get as standard with the Black edition are options for it's competitors. I've left out the tranny/drivetrain, suspension and engine details etc. I'm just trying to give an overview of the car (and trying to justify my decision at this point if I'm honest):

Definately. There isn't much difference between the different spec's either which is a bit odd.

It's probably because the base model is fairly loaded anyway, what you are paying for are some paint and audio options. I went for the smoked alloys, which meant I had to go for the Black edition. Bit of a bonus as you get the nicer interior as well.

Of course, the downside of this is you will never get quite a personalised car in the way you can with a 911. The options on the 911 are better if you want something exactly how you want it. I love black interiors anyway, so I lucked out with my option, but if I wanted anything else but grey, I'm **** out of luck on a GT-R.

Play with the Porsche configurator (I swear, I haven't, Christ no) and the choice is impressive. You may have to pay for options that the Gt-R has as standard (Tiptronic (equivelent), cruise control, heated seats, multifunction steering wheel, Chrono package {this is debatable} etc) but you can get seemingly almost what you want. And that is totally ignoring factors like handling, feedback etc.

The Nissan is half the price of a 911 Turbo. I'm very much stuck in a quandry as far as the law of dimishing returns and...nevermind.

MOAR!*

*of everything

Or less, depending how you look at it. Rumours, and thats all that they are (but probably true :D), is that Nissan are having some issues stripping off the weight for the V-Spec.

Disappointed, i was expecting a small japanese guy to come out of that box and turn you into a 'Drifting God'.

That makes two of us. A ruler and a piece of string does the job better. I would rather of had a full brochure on a usb stick. Christ, at this stage, a brochure of any kind would be nice. I'm a sucker for stuff like this, but a tape measure?

whats one of them ;)

just reading the spec makes me giggle like a school girl, 4 configurable screens (is that right? it seems to suggest there are a load of them but i guess these are options on one of the screens) with GForce readouts etc, wow!

That will be ABBYY Finereader playing up, I could not find a spec sheet to directly c&p from so there are a few typo's in there.

Regarding the whole screen thing, the novelty will probably wear off in about, oooh, 10 minutes? Some of it *could* be useful, but it also lends weight to the whole Playstation thing surrounding the GT-R.

If you want to see it (and the music interface in the second vid) in action:

mmmmm

I drove past one today on the M40 around the Oxford turning running French plates and they are a big car!

The road presence of this car seems to be epic, more so than the R34 and that looked threatening and imposing.

I reallly can't make my mind up about the GT-R, part of me says its a fantastic technological achievement for the purchase price and will be hoot, the other part says its not a proper drivers car so its effectively a lot of money for some fast wiring.

Fett, have you driven the GT-R?

Nope, and this of course leaves me with *issues*, some that I'm trying to address via the excellent help and courtesy of another member here (who can pipe up and claim his dues if he wishes).

All I've done is sat in it. Then sat in the passenger seat, then the rear then back to the drivers seat. Pushed some buttons, popped the boot...just had a very thorough nosey around it. No Nissan HPC dealers are doing test drives, instead it's a track test drive so I have to wait until mid-August.

Anybody going to the Motor Show will have a chance to have a poke around as well if you are interested.

All I'm going on are reviews, vids, forums, track times (some godd, some not so good) etc. The one person who I know has driven it and I've talked to is my dealer. Not really an objective review.

How much are they in Japan? I read the equivalent of £30k?

About £41k last I looked. Nissan UK's pricing structure has changed, so it's possible it may be different Japan now as well.

Honestly, what did you think? Personally, I don't think they photograph too well, I was more impressed when I finally saw it.

And what colour was it? I really, really don't like the red for some reason. Like it should have a sticker on the back saying "I wanted a Ferrari, but all I got was this :(" Just a strange hang-up I guess.

I really don't like rabid fanboys of any marque, so other forum discussions seem to always go ***'s up when talking about the possible merits of the car. I'm just relying on journalists at this stage and I'm trying to view the GT-R as objectively as I can.

So yeah, I know where you are coming from.

I'm pretty jealous of the electronic gadgetry, I want one! Makes my old R34 LCD look positively arhaic.

It is sort of cool isn't it :).

Jesus, I feel like I've just admitted I like little boys or something.

I think I'm starting to warm to this car.

It's not for the purists, but then it doesn't try to be for the purists.

So, perhaps it should just be accepted for what it is - a cheap way of getting from A to B in ridiculously short amount of time.
