enjoy the reviews!

shame about the power usage:

i guess the extra clock speed overruled the power savings from 55nm process.

I've seen that already on here somewhere. I think it might have been last night.

wouldnt have thought so the review was published today (20th), if you can find another topic with this lmk and i'll close this.

They've shrunk it but increased the clock speeds. I don't see why it's so hard to understand that increased clock speeds = higher power usage.

:o Other than the difficulty making it theres nothing wrong with the current GTX 280, its perfectly fine

I meant people proposing a GTX280 GX2 to counter R700 if indeed it is faster than the GTX280 at the time it's out. Should've clarified.

Then again, I guess the real gain is that a smaller die = more dice per wafer = cheaper to produce, which if the $220 price is right is being passed onto the consumer which is nice.

55nm is cheaper to produce (If yields are good)

The increased power consumption is from that crazy clock they got it on.

Hm, 9.3% clock speed increase and a (roughly) 16.25% die shrink still yielded higher power consumption. The gain is in the cost (i.e. less of it).

So it seems nvidia have something to take the sting out of the 4850 then.

Read post 16.

Also it's an overclocked 9800GTX that's pulling more power with a die shrink lol. The overclock and die shrink should have left it at the same power draw as before or even less but it isn't the case from the graph in the OP.

Nothing to see here folks, jog on.

Despite that it is still price and performance wise matched with the 4850...?

Sure it draws more power but its been touted that the 4850 runs very hot.

Anyway, i don't know why i am debating this, im getting neither and am gonna stick with my GTX for a while longer.
