Age of Conan

When i first turned on AoC i played it solid to lvl 24 or so..

Loved the environments and the instancing didnt bother me at all. But the itemisation and the interface bugged the hell out of me in the end.

Its go lots of potential to be something special. but i feel there are some key basic things that should have been addressed before release.

I think going to an mmo thats matured a bit more might be my best option. WoW armor used to look new and cool to me, but now i dont want a character to look like a power ranger. I want one that looks like a warrior from a far off land heh :D

Who cares about the graphics though? WoW doesn't push the most polygons and maybe the visual style doesn't do it for everybody but the gameplay is the best around.

WoW is the only MMO with a very fluid, fast paced combat system I've played.
 
I always stand by wows graphics. i think the use of colour is brilliant. I used to play that game taking screenshots all the time and taking in the views from mountains etc.

But after playing it for 2 years I grew bored of it. Its style is part of why i lost interest.

I played lotro for 2 months, and ive played conan for a month i guess, and even in them short times they had players who would actually have decent conversations with me, and come across more mature.

I just guess wow isnt appealing any more. Last week i installed it again because i was tempted to resub, then i played on my mates character for a bit, and it really did nothing for me at all.

Been off wow since november and ill be staying away.

I want something i can immerse myself into. But wow is unfortunately still the one to beat
 
Well, as things considered I think it was a smooth launch. However there are major issues with polish. To name a few:

- items
- quests
- class balance
- map and grouping issues
- really really easy to solo (I like to solo, but the difficulty was just far to low)

For these reasons I cancelled my account yesterday.

However. I have really enjoyed playing the game thus far (probably because I haven't played an MMO for over a year and welcomed the change). Dinged to 40 the other night as I had a goal to at least see the Rhino before I cancel.

However, because of the above issues I don't want to, just yet, pay monthly for this game. That said it does have its charms and I understand people wanting to play it.

I am hoping to check back with it in few months and see how it has gone (unless Warhammer turns out to be the second coming). So have fun all and I hope, as many of you all do, that the issues above are fixed and that it will become the game it can be.

Aye it was a pretty immersive game, so immersive that i ended up just jumping around on the bank roof shouting [DIRGE]???

I Don't want to be so immersed that i end up playing the game for no reason. I want to be able to enjoy it. I dont mind grinding for raids but i dont want it to last hours.

I will come back to conan just not for a month or two. As said earlier leveling to around 40 was really good fun but at 50 quests start to slow down and everything seems to become a grind fest.

I hope i will come back to this game. That or Warhammer might suck me in.
 
Why to people keep slating this game as buggy ? When wow was relased it was a complete mess, it took ages to get it to where it is now. Give AoC a chance. It's got great potential.

I dont doubt its potential, its just not getting my hooked at the moment, or at least the novelty wore off around level 40. i will come back to it though as it wont die down.

Ive never encountered any major bugs in it personally, its the lack of thought that seems to have went into the itemisation and interface that put me off in the end.

it has potential to be brilliant, but its interface is pretty naff.. and theres no denying that the way the items scale is ridiculous
 
What exactly do you guys mean when you say you don't like the itemisation? (Genuine question, I've tried several online games but GW was the only one that I played long term, and that was pretty unique in the way it handled items, so I don't know what you guys don't like about AoC's items.)

Wow was fine from the start. You actually had end level content and battlegrounds were out within 3 months. Although you still had world PVP. Most of the patches in wow early days were class balancing and giving the end game content proper skins. I played wow from closed beta and got it on release day and there was no problem with content and i got to 60 very quickly. Patches there after were adding content when players were starting to finish the content that was there. AOC on the other hand doesn't even seem to have that end game content to start with. TBH the game was released too early and should have been finished first. Don't get me wrong the game was great but once i got to lvl 30ish everything just seemed to disappear.

Wow to me now is a total pile of rubbish ever since tbc came out but to a new player it's still the best thing out there. Just like you i really can't wait for something to crush wow but i don't think this game will do it.

No Swearing! stats. You get stats such as Defence bonus 0.1, or slashinvunerability bonus 0.03. I mean really - what the hell difference is 0.03 gonna make?

Sometimes I got items which stated something like the below:

Slashing invunerability: 0.03
Slashing invunerability: 0.6

It repeated the stats twice!

On top of that multiple items looked the same. OMG!

And then the levels of items didn't make sense. light arour was dropping that stated I could wear until lvl 30 and the only stat was defence 0.3.

I was wearing light stuff at 15 with massively better stats than that.

Something seriously worng with the itemisation.
 
The thing that annoyed me was the stupid stats on items. Everything Ramdom just mentioned is what really bugged me.

In other games its clear that one item improves on the next.. that a level 20 magic item should be better than a level 2 magic item. Stats with 0.4 defence bonus etc are just bloody confusing.

so a set of items could become +2 defence. wow.
 
Right after playing for 2 weeks or so i've just uninstalled.
This game is just plain and simple boring, there is very little motivation to keep playing.

Quests are the usual pap, minus cool rewards. Areas don't live up to the starting island. PvP involves standing still and mashing buttons. And end game sounds absolute carp so no point playing on for that either. Sieges sounds broken. Guild cities are like "lawl go play simcity if you enjoy spending your time building settlements". And the crowd is actually pretty immature, had a couple of guys maby 5 levels above me somehow enjoy killing me while i'm on 25% health and have agro..

No idea how people can still enjoy this game. Genuinely intrested.

Ah well first and last time I'll be buying a game before reading reviews.

That's not "wrong", that's entirely deliberate, the idea is for the game not to be item-dependant. If you don't like it there's plenty of MMOs that are all about killing a boss over and over again until he drops the uber helmet of doom that'll make you invincible and 3 feet taller than ever other player in the game.

But as there's no measure of skill, only time commitment in the form of PvP levels, there is very little progression.

It's all well and good shouting about being a non item-centric MMO, but when it's fails to deliver a substitute for progression, why bother playing?

What are you talking about? First of all, this is by far the most difficult MMO out there, cause you not only need a lot of knowledge of the different abilities and battlefield awareness like in most others but also a heckload of manual dexterity as well (and this applies both to pve and pvp), so I take serious issue with you saying there's no measure of skill in it! Imagine playing WoW, but AT THE SAME TIME having to play Dance Dance Revolution with your fingers, and you'll have the right idea of what it's like! :p
Secondly have you even played this game? PvP levels haven't even been implemented yet! Seriously, I have no idea what you're talking about!
 
I've actually decided not to renew too - it was Black Castle that did it for me - it had to be the most uninspired, boring, soulless dungeon I've ever encountered. Big square, empty rooms with mobs just standing around taking up space. Even the top boss room had zero though put into it. That plus gaining another level without any new skills or abilities, I suddenly found I just couldn't be bothered anymore.

If this is indeed the case, then i dont really understand the point in it. The story from 1-20 is good fun to play along, however if you are doing instances.. surely you want something out of it.

If not loot, then what are you going to want?
