Hey everyone,

I resprayed my center console afew months back and after afew weeks the top part (with most exposure to sun) has gone all bubbley. They rest of the console is fine its just the top part.

Does anyone know why it would do this and how it can be prevented?

I thought i did everything correctly :-

Rub Down
Plastic Primer
Plastic Colour Paint
Plastic Lacquer

They were all just Halfords own brand but I thought it would have been ok...

Anyone Help?

Heres a pic of the console

sadly as far as i am aware you just have to try and do it in a nice room temp and keep at room temp whilst drying... what is the console made out of?

about the only thing you haven't got there is degreased?, sometimes especially with interior parts they can all sorts of nasty cleaning stuff that can collide with your paint.

Guess ill just take out the centre bit and respray it. Ill try and leave it to dry and degrease it abit better than previously...

Would probably be easier going to a breakers and getting a spare one and painting that one. That way it could be fully cleaned, prep'd, and sprayed then left fully to cure and you wouldnt have the hassle of driving with no centre console.
As said above if its been cleaned with dash cleaner/polish then it can cause problems with the paint. Just make sure it's fully cleaned before you start and it's left to fully cure afterwards and you should be fine.

Did you add the TC button yourself?

Need to get around to do that soon!

There's no tc button, the two you can see are for the heated leather. The tc one sits in the middle.

Ah brilliant, thanks.

Been told its an easy fit, and meant to be more 'fun' afterwards.

Begbie are you a member of VBOC? (Vauxhall Bertone Owners Club)

There a lot of people with some good knowledge about our cars. Ive been an member for some time and they've been a great help.

Defiantely sounds like silicon to me. Most dashboard/household cleaners are full of it and it's a swine to get rid off.

Obviously being plastic acetone isn't an option, but panel wipe is though it will practically need a bath/scrub to get it all off.

Reminds me of the Peugeot Blaze on the 306's.. nice colour :)

I sprayed my centre console with some " Aluminium Silver " from halfords and havn't suffered any problems ! It does sound to me like there is something like silicone on the part you painted :(

I suppose its possible I used a house hold wipe thing just on the top bit (collects most dust) LESSON LEARNT!
