No, I didn't want them in the competition cos I hate them. They shouldn't be in the competition because they're not in Europe. Russia have played good football so as they're in with a shout and are playing good stuff I wouldn't mind seeing them in the final.

Like it or not it's fact that part of Turkey is in Europe.
If I remember rightly you're a Leeds fan Gilly, so I'm guessing your dislike of them stems from incidents like this:

I can understand your dislike for certain aspects of Turkish fans behaviour, kinda like English fans not too long ago. The fact remains that they are in Europe.

I hate everything connected with turkish football. I hate the fact that if any English club's fans had behaved anything like the turks of g*latasaray that their club would probably have been banned from Europe. The turks are the worst nation in the world for football violence, even worse than the Iti's that have a very recent history of racism running through their football. Hardly anything ever gets done about it though, condoning the despicable behavior.
Everything I've seen and every person I've encountered (which includes you) has had the same stupid mindset. The kind of mindset that makes it OK to kill people because they did something to a piece of material. Well I've news for you, it is never OK to kill people, no matter what they've done to your flag. Your flag means nothing in the context of human life. Nothing whatsoever.
Any evidence for this? I'm pretty sure China is up there for football hooligans, maybe even Italy and Argentina.

It would be if we weren't in the Sports forum and we weren't talking about football fans. Where did I say every turk has the exact same mindset? I think it is lunacy to put words into people's mouths and then argue against them.
Whilst that may be true, it isn't solely because it was Leeds fans that were murdered, that just made it so that I sat up and took notice of just how bad they are.

Ideally I'd like to see a Spain v Russia final with the other two retiring from the competition because they've gone off in the huff. However since that is somewhat unlikely I'd prefer to see Spain v Germany because I think it will make for a better spectacle.
They might be but it isn't exactly great mitigation for the Turks if they are still in one of the top five countries for sports fan related violence - proper playground stuff "well, he's did more wrong than I did". Personally I'd have thought that Serbian football would be in with a bit of a shout, what with the Red Star Ultras - those being some of the basis of Arkan's Tigers who were a slightly nasty bunch by all accounts.

I'm not trying to put words into you're mouth. But you begin by saying 'turkish football' then later say 'every person I've encountered' with no mention of football. I'll admit that it could still be interpreted as solely football fans, however.
The fact remains though, even if a there are a lot of Turkish hooligans (despite it still being a minority) it's a good reason to say the rest of the country should be punished.

I agree they are up there and it's impossible for me to defend the actual hooligans, my argument is simply that a whole country shouldn't be victimised as a result of a minority.

Absolutely, it isn't fair to dismiss an entire country on the basis of a few 'fans'. I don't have anything particularly for or against the Turks, I've met some nice folks from there, I've met some not so nice ones - same as anywhere else.
However there is a difference between decrying an entire nation for the behaviour of a few and alternatively asking for their team(s) to be banned from international competiton (club or country) based on the violent behaviour of some fans - if other nations would be banned for the similar behaviour of a few then so should they.
Yeah do you/did you play for acuity? Or with those guys in wild* or something? I've been out of touch really for ages as it's turned really awful now with people like kikki and jovan :/
