Building a new system, gonna be a GTX260 Q6600 system with hefty Tuniq tower cooling, question is what board to go for? I heard the Asus P5Q p45 board is an excellent stable board and decent for overclocking.

Trouble is choosing between the Pro and non pro versions, i hear the pro version has opertunity for crossfire, obviousley this isnt going to effect me as ill be using nvidia. But is there any other notabe difference between the two? Quick glance and they seem very similar apart from crossfire (2 pcie 16x).

But i am new to this so well.. i couldnt tell if the pro was worth it. Would appreciate your expert opinouns very much so :) and advice on whether to save some dollar.

Thanks again guys :D

Look at where the power input is on the non-pro, I'd say its worth it spending the extra to have it more accessable! Myself, I'm waiting a few weeks to see if the P5Q-E comes on this week only....

Difference in price atm is 23 quid.. 23 quid for a slightly more accessible power input... really doesn't seem worth it to me.
What i meant was is there any performance differences?
The heat sinks look a bit different on the boards, but would that make such a large difference?

not much difference, the non-pro probably wont clock as good
wont have as many bios features for overclocking

i have the deluxe myself :D

Thanks for that chart mate :D, tbh ill doubt theyll change the bios features at all for one step up(not sure though), the biggest change here and the difference in price seems to stem from 2 pci-e 16x slots on the pro and one on the non-pro, would be nice to have an actual review or something stating the difference though. But i cant seem to find one.
Anybody know from experience or on the web stating the difference between the two?

Since you're getting a GTX260, I surprised that you're looking to skimp a few quid on the mobo... get the deluxe model and be done with it :D

Mine seems to like my 2gb of OCZ XTC rev 2.

It seems to work with an E7200 out of the box; now I need to find out how well it will clock it:D

some 667mhz crucial 2x2GB i changed the spd timings to 800mhz and now they work though, in bios it does say setting ram to less than 800mhz may cause the computer not to boot hhmm.

Just ordered the P5Q3 Deluxe, cos it's the cheapest DDR3 board I could find that isn't *****. Hopefully it'll be as good as my old P5K Deluxe.

Very interesting, I saw that too in the BIOS. The printed manual and the web site both say DDR2-667 is supported, so it is a bit of a mystery. Did it boot with it set to Auto ?

My 8GB of OCZ won't boot with either Auto or 667 setting. Maybe it will boot with an 800 setting... whether it would run error free at that setting is another question. Probbaly would require even looser settings than 5-5-5-15. Could be worth a try.

Got my P5Q board today, and whilst waiting for install I read through the manual. Mentions lots about requiring 800Mhz minimum to get the RAM going.

Nothing in the Deluxe manual that I can see

ASUS do have have 667 RAM on their QVL list, including 2GB sticks that you can run in all 4 slots. Tellingly, there are no OCZ modules on that list.

Know you've not had it long but let us know how you get on with it. Think my lan port on my current mobo has bust so have been looking at the p5q to upgrade but then the pro is only a few quid more so not sure if i should get it (crossfire is of no use to me)
