I think we've got the GDDR5 bit cleared up
Just to add, the number you quote above is the amount of vram or framebuffer. Simplified, its how much storage area the card has (minus overheads) for textures etc. The bandwidth (bus width x effective speed) is how fast it can move/access said data in/out of the framebuffer.
Yep, but what a lot of people forget or don't know is that the ATI cards have far better data compression than nvidia so can infact squeeze more into 512mb than nvidia could.
Still pi55ed that my order didnt get dispatched considering it was placed minutes after the 4870's went on sale :/
