Project 'sillyteg'

This is a project thread/worklog. Where, funnily enough, I'm posting updates about the status of the car and how it's going.

Its a project, if things go perfect then it wouldn't have been as fun!

May aswell keep trying with it.

It's just a case of disappointment as Drex hasn't actually had a chance to drive the car properly since he bought it. I'd be pretty peed off despite the risks I may have taken.

I hope its something trivial anyway. I understand little about these things but its threads like this that keep you educated :)

I'd definitely try and sort it out and not rush anything. I know it's taken a lot of your time but the end result will be much better. The sun will be out a lot more, get the spanners out and a few beers and it will be spot on.

If it makes you feel any better, i've been on with my much more simple project for 9 months now, i'm still not confident it'll be finished any time soon.

What's really bugging me is i'm not allowed to take time off work outside of school holidays, so if I need to go anywhere or drop anything off to be machined I can only do it once every 6 weeks really.

Good things come to those who wait (I hope) :p

It would be a huge shame to sell it now for 4k when its worth so much more, you would have been as well with drawing thousands of pounds, making a pile and setting it on fire!

Stay with it and get it done, it will be an utter monster when its finished :)

Do it and do it now - time is running out to own a decent P1. They are what, 8 years old now? The older they get the more hassle they get and the harder it becomes to find a good one.

LOL, I think I've got a little while yet. Theres still low miles cars around. I don't mind having to pay for them. I'm still checking out what Lancias are for sale and they will chew up more cash than your average coke addict!

Sell the whole thing, buy a decent Subaru, and stop faffing about. RX7, now this, they've all been nightmares.

Just get a nice Scoob and be happy.

Wasn't it you who told him to buy a Type-R Fox ;)

OK, bit of an update. The car is running fine again, and a compression test came out fine. After more investigation it appears the smoke was caused by oil getting past the turbo seals. Hondas have quite a high oil pressure, and it's not uncommon for this pressure to overpower the turbo oil seals. The cure is to put a restrictor in the oilfeed line. I have a restrictor on the way, hopefully that will cure the smoke issue and I won't have to get the seals replaced.

If it's still smoking I'll have to pull the turbo and get the seals replaced, a pain in the ass but much better than having to pull the engine apart.....

Another thing I need to sort is a tick-tick-tick at the top end (it was there before the smoking issue), I'm pretty sure it's just the LMAs (basically little 'shock absorbers' that hold the VTEC followers in place when the engine is out of VTEC). Annoying to have to fix, but not the end of the world.

Looks like the newer redesigned B-Series ones are exactly the same as the Prelude ones, but with a shim attached. And Honda charge more than twice the price

I'll probably just go for the 'lude items with some washers......

Are they easy to change? I've been trying to find a guide but can't find anything.

Yeah. they're quite easy, they just pull out from the head, but to get to them you'll have to remove the cam and rockers I suppose. :(

You can see the holes for them in the head casting here

but you have to remove all this to get to it :p
