Hi all,

My X1900 XT is starting to fail, I'm getting tearing etc, so i thought I'd just replace it. The card is still ample for my needs i.e WOW and Quake III;), so I just want a current card that is selling with equivalent power as my X1900 XT

Thanks

I also have a 1900XT and have always been happy with it but I think that the 4850 is going to be a worthy successor.

Not sure whether just to update the card or my whole set up (currently have a S939 4800 which I just found out are selling well secondhand).

Complete build if you have any money saved up :D

is it worth the diffence in money between a PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro 256MB GDDR3 at £64.61 inc VAT or a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT "Ultimate Edition at £123.36 inc VAT coz im upgradin from a x1950 pro

spend the tinyest bit more over the 3870xt for a newer 4850 series...^^

what psu have you got ? and whats your cpu ?

to be honest way things are priced at the its either 3850 or 4850. the 3870 is now overpriced for its performance as the 4850 is quicker and virtually same.

If you system can handle an x1950pro/xt I reckon it can take a stock 4850.

The only thing to watch for is pci-e slot compatibility and you have a good enough processor to take actually make it worth while. You'll need a "pci-e V1 1.1" slot, or a pci-e V2 slot (The V I am just using to donate PCI-E One and PCI-E Two slots :))

What is the spec of you current rig (CPU etc?)

Tbh I'd say you'd be fine with that, I used to run an X1900XT 512, an an overclocked AMD X2 (socket 939) off the weaker 450W PSU in the Sonata II, and tbh, the X1900XT probably guzzled more/same, as did the overclocked X2 (1.59V).

a certain someone has a 3850 512mb flashed to 3870 speeds for sale. this persons contact info is in their trust :)
