Diablo 2 worth a play?

To get it to run on Vista, you need to install the latest patch first, then go to compatibility and check 'remove desktop composition' and 'run in 256 colours'.

Being a party based RPG fan I would normally I'd be in total agreement. My initial impressions of single player Diablo 2 were not that great. It appeared to be very linear and the combat was just mindless hack and slash. For a D&D/Ultima fan boy it was a bit of culture shock, and initially I was a little annoyed at what I saw.

However Diablo 2 just had that certain something that kept me coming back for more. The atmosphere of the first act is still an all time gaming highlight for me. My favourite class was the Necromancer and I loved leading my skeleton army in to total carnage. :)

While Diablo 3 won't be appearing on my preorder list, I'll certainly keep an eye out for the eventual reviews.
 
Anyone happen to have a non ladder high (40+) level character on closed bnet (eu) who can help my druid kill diablo on normal? :/
Trying a 'kodiak' build where I basically spam a life/mana leeching ability in bear form. Works great on normal enemies but does bugger all damage to bosses and Diablo just owns me :(

was just about to say, wouldn't let me join caus it thought I was a ladder character, which i'm not, but I am playing expansion
 
My damn car is off the road, if it wasnt, id go down to buy LoD now,

but im too lazy to bus it :)
 
One of the good things about D2 is it also supports direct connection over TCP/IP so you can play it at LANs, or over the internet with friends (I did some coop gaming with an old housemate from uni a few years back).

One of the bad things is that the max resolution (with LOD) is only 800x600 which probably looks kinda lucky on modern TFTs.
 
I was so careful not to get enticed by everyone talking about this again, started a Barb this morning with my housemate as a pally. Managed to get to Level 16 in a bit of a mammoth session.
 
Im currently playing through again after the Diablo 3 news. Still holds its own today. Playing SP on original and will go Battle.net for LOD

Where's the best place to get this? Cheapest I can find seems to be £20, buying the game + expansion separately. Are there any direct download sites that offer this?

A big online game store has each for 7.99 free delivery and if you go via quidco can get 11% off to.
