I swear I have memories from childhood, dreams about places I've never been to that actually exist (stangely, usually Universities). People tend to think I must have seen it on TV, but that was long before our family even had a TV.

My mum has memories of places she has never been, well she says so, my mum said when she was little she went to this place with her mum and dad and all that and she had never ever been here before or seen it, but she knew the place, remembered it from somewhere, knew her way around it and all that apparently.

All I say is I don't think I fit into any of those categories strictly really but I would like to say if a God is up there then why does he/she let children/cute kittens etc die or be raped by adults.
If a God has the power to instantly take your life then why does he or she not do this to a person just about to abuse a child for example? it just confuses you and makes you lose faith.

I don't understand the first sentence.

Sorry, that was me being slightly sarcastic and saying "of course Richard Dawkins thinks it is the logical and rational way to define atheism, after all his rants he'd hardly want to admit that his atheism relies on faith much as a theists position does".

As to the definition of the words, you are right there is evidence for both definitions and since neither side has hugely more compelling evidence for their position then I think we will have to leave it there since neither of us is likely to cede defeat, nor should we when we are both right.

God, what God?

According to the church, take your pick which one, over 80% of people believe in a God, I think not. Another thing to consider, there is a proven link between intelligence and religeon. According to studies the smarter you are, the less likely you are to believe in God.

A lot of the believers seem to be criticising the non-believers for dismissing the idea of a "God". Well are you, the believers, open to the idea that maybe there isn't a "God"?

Well how many believers do you think there are that may have lost their faith?

So what? This will be because of the logic of their reasoning process. Nobody ever said believing in God was necessarily logical.

I lost my faith if you can say being too young to really make my own mind up without other influence counts.. All through my school days indoctrinated by religious fanatics on what to believe really made me against religion in later life.

Who conducted these surveys? That would be an important starting point before you can claim that as factual (assuming something like this could be measured accurately anyway). You'd also do well to consider that many scientists are and have been religious so I wouldn't be quite so quick to link religion with stupidity.

Religion should be banned!

Common bloody sense needs to rule the world, not some 2000 year old out of date story book.

The origanal texts of the Bible were thought over for many centuries and eventually lost in the proccess or destroyed because of it.

Lost ??

You mean burned in Alexandria, along with thousands of scrolls of scientific data from all over the world.
I believe our understanding of the world around us would be much further forward if we hadn't "lost" this asset.

I voted for multiple deities, but as one of the minority Pagans I do believe in multiple deities and I am a devoted servant of the Goddess.

I am a bit taken aback by some peoples attitudes to religion. It isn't just a force of evil and the causes of wars people!

I am taken aback by people not being able to rationalise what's being put to them and think.. wait a minute, that can't be right!

Too many people of this world take what's said to them as gospel (excuse the pun) without investigating it for themselves.

Bit like readers of the Sun. :D

But how am I meant to become a reactionary atheist if I don't pronounce religion as the root of all evil? Tsk tsk, you must be one of the forces of evil if you think such measured positions will fool me.

Or have you considered that perhaps people have evaluated the evidence and decided that the evidence for religion is sufficient for them to believe? What makes your position right and their position wrong?

I suggest you look up rationality and how it works.

i'd also be interested to know what your stance is, and how you rationalise the assumptions that will underpin those beliefs. Extra points awarded if you claim it's science.
