Just been reading this on the news, and can't decide if this is a good thing or not.

I just don't think Donington has the facilities to host a Grand-Prix.

What do we think then?

Yes, today. A £100m investment program for Donington is now underway.

I think they have a LOT of work to do however. The whole site as a facility is lightyears off even Silverstone in what it offers, safety, access, etc. So god knows how they are to surpass that and create Ecclestone's utopia of British Motorsport.

Tough one really, I'd say that they are about even. Howeve I still feel access to Donington is about as poor as it gets though.

Never been to Donny before but with 2 years and a wedge of cash, I'm sure they can make the changes neccessary. I expect Silverstone had a) lack of cash b) too much red tape from local council to make changes quickly/in the future

I think Donny has a generally overall better track and will standup for the job better. As far as access goes when you get that amount of spectators turning up then it's going to be difficult to manage for anyone, with any luck it'll be improved by 2010 :)

Luck won't come into it. Health and Safety regulations will mean that they HAVE to improve both public and emergency service access, by a large amount too!

The track is being renovated and extended also, so I don't really thing "overall better track" has much to do with it!

will be interesting to see what the extended section of the track looks like, or where it feeds out from and feeds back in to.

only 100million

Why can't we do anything right. We have a chance to make a super track with world class facilities and we throw a tiny 100million. Why can't we get some call designs like over in asia.

I wish my dad was here to see this news.
He was an F1 fan since he was a kid.
He always said it was "an absolute travesty" when Donington lost the Grand Prix in the first place.
He rated it as one of the best circuits.

But again i don't believe there has ever been formula 1 british grand prix at donington

The original Donington track was opened in 1931, and initially used for motorcycle races. In 1935 it saw Richard Shuttleworth win the Donington Grand Prix in an Alfa Romeo P3, in the 1937 British Grand Prix and 1938 British Grand Prix, the race winners were respectively Bernd Rosemeyer and Tazio Nuvolari, both in Auto Union 'Silver Arrows'.

Donington Park was the host of the 1993 European Grand Prix on 11 April 1993, which was affected by rain. The race was notable for the dominance of Ayrton Senna where he won the race by over 1 minute from Damon Hill.

This race was described by AtlasF1 as the 'Drive of the Decade' [3]. There is a memorial to Senna in the grounds of the racetrack, outside a shop selling motorsports memorabilia.

Bah, anyway i do agree with the lack of facilities. Been there a few times and i always wonder how the held the race there in 93
