Quick CF bridge connection question

I have heard mixed responses from differing websites.

Some say that only using one bridge can affect high resolution performance and others say it makes no difference.

Question is if you have two bridges why would you only use one anyway?!

For reference I am using two bridges on my CF HD4850

I wish someone from AMD would come here and say exactly what's needed. I've heard too many stories on what to do but no solid answer.

Just connected the 2nd and ran a benchmark, hasnt made any difference

This falls in line with what I posted that some people don't notice a difference yet others do?!

Seriously though if you have two bridges and the ability to install both (ie neither is restricted by a cooler etc) then why on earth wouldn't you use both?!

I use two.

If it made any difference, one bridge would surely give less performance than two so why would you use only one?

From my reading you only need 2 bridges if playing at 2xxx*2xxx type resolutions, using two bridges causes some people to get flashing textures otherwise. I've always used one and performance was the same as with two.

My m8 is using one bridge at 1920x1200 and is getting missing textures and a slideshow when the menu pops up but only when AA is applied in-game .

The game default can set things too high & get the slide show.
I only had missing textures once & that was when i was messing with setting up a private session.

don't do more than 2XMSAA.
shadows med & particles low. verything else max it out.

What?. My m8 will have to run with lowered setting with his Crossfired 4870s?. You've got to be having a giraffe?. Especially when my 8800GTX runs at 1920x1200 with everything set the highest except for 4xAA. If he has to lower textures or anything then I think OCUK will be getting two 4870s back as he's had them for under a week. Paid £600 for 2 cards and a x48 motherboard to get worse performances than a single 8800GTX on a BFG 680i isn't right.

Surely all these review sites haven't been benching GRID with worse settings than the Nvidia cards?.

Check the numbers on that review. Now you will see why I'm a little confused here.

4870s should have no problem at all.

It sound like there is something wrong with his setup.
But also make sure that the CF is working in CCC & that everything is is set to
USE application & leave off the Adaptive its rarely noticeable in games most of the time & not worth the hit..
GPU-Z the PCI-E

Aye. It's a brand new motherboard also X48 DFI-TR2. I hope everything works out as I had full confidence that the 4870s would be a great buy and I don't like being wrong :p.

Crossfire is enabled as it shows in GPU-Z and in the CCC, I never checked if the PCI-E was at x16 though. I'll be going up to his house 2moro and will make sure nothing is forced and that Adaptive is off. Thank you for the help :).

Great mobo. & make sure the Gen2 switch in on for each PCIE that is being used by the gfx cards slot as they were not on by default on my DFI.

Ooh . What's that (Gen2 switch) and how do I enable it lol?. The last DFI board I used was the Lan Party Ultra-D skt 939 and nothing had to be messed about with as I got the performances required and it matched up with other users throughout the 8800GTX, 2900 Pro and X1900XT cards.

I do agree that it's a nice board. If I move to X48 I think I'll be going back to DFI as I loved my last board.
