Students: Weekly food spend

I used to spend between £10 and £15 every week at Tesco but I'd also spend about £50 on meat from the butchers every couple of months. also used to eat out once or twice a week on average at the pub or getting takeaway. Weekly total food spend was probably nearer £30.

About £50/week when i was eating properly 7 meals a day and going gym etc, I managed to get it down to about £35/week at the end of the last term though.

7 meals a day... sounds like heaven

can I ask what type of stuff you had for each meal?

Please tell me you're kidding :)

Yup :D

I just nicked as much as i could from home at *** start of the year. When parents bought me up at *** beginning of term I always stocked up on the expensive things like olive oil and meat. Then when going home the odd weekend bought back the odd cow and chicken flock :D

Left plenty of moneu for the cider.

How can you guys be having any meat at £30 a week? A pack of sausages are about £3 I think. There is no way I am eating economy meat

20-30 a week for me, but really depends on what i buy, as i like different things, some weeks I may go for pasta dishes, poultry, beef etc all varies, my favourite is sushi but thats a treat as it can be expensive. One thing is important dont leave out fruit and veg, always try and budget to get your 5 a day.

lately its been on a calorie controlled diet as im trying to loose a couple stone to get back down to my usual 13.5 stone so been spending less than £20 a week.

1KG chicken = £6, that's 4 meals of normal grade A chicken.

1KG mince = £4, again 4 meals of good quality beef mince.

Could easily spend less than £20 on a weekly shop at Asda, unless you're buying the expensive stuff you really shouldn't be spending more than £30.

Tesco metro in Jesmond, Newcastle (where I did most my shopping at uni) was supposed to be one of the most expensive tesco's in the north. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that, would have thought the prices were pretty standard between them. Guess I just don't pay that much attention hehe.

Its the 2nd or 3rd most expensive Tesco in the UK. I have been inside it. I was  might as well shop at sainsburys! It would be cheaper!

Well everyday I spend £1.40 for Breakfast x7
For lunch I buy a pack of wafer thin ham and a pack of corned beef(both quality stuff) £3
This lasts me 3 days so just say x2 + £1
I buy a Warburtons thick cut loaf which lasts 3 days £1.05 x2 + 35p

I usually spend £5 a day on my evening meal(steak, chicken, lamb etc..) Which included the veg. x 7

Then the usual cakes biscuits and crisps which comes to about £2 x7

Total

£67.20
