Well done mate, thats a serious achievement!!!! Last time i went they butchered my arm, had lots of bruising!

Don't you get 2 rewards for every platelet donation as well?

Yes. The figure is actually a slight cheat: in days of yore you used to get four credits if you did a "dual", that is, a needle in each arm (one flow, one return), but that was abandoned about five years ago. That credit is for 17 whole blood, plus about twelve years of platelet donations. For a few years I was going every two weeks, but that gave me anaemia so I had to go to every four weeks.

I was going to ask about platelet before i got my job a few years back. Know I can hardly ever give blood as I always have cuts and they don't seem to like that.

I've never had a problem - how bad are they? I find my platelet count is higher just after I've hacked myself open. Not that it's a deliberate strategy you understand?

My last visit was my 10th time i had been, so looking forward to my new coloured card :D.

Though i didnt get one for my 5th which i was slightly miffed at, but really enjoy going as am not bothered by needles etc. Have my next visit in a month or so i think.

Congrats on the award btw :)

I'd love to be able to donate blood as I think it is something we can all do and potentially save lives.
Nobody ever knows when they will require blood themselves.
Unfortunately as I take thyroxin I can't or ever be a donor so I have to rely on others to save my life in the event I'd need blood.
