Well, I've seen a very cheap Cat C car with minor damage that i'm very interested in buying.
Now as I understand it when the car is written off, the V5 is destroyed by the insurer, and that you have to repair it then have a VIC check done before you can get another V5. What happens in the time in between though, I just hand over the money and there is no change of registered keeper at that time? If this is the case then I would assume that there is no way I could insure it and drive it home?

You're pretty much spot on in your OP.

Needs a VIC before a new V5 will be issued. You wont get insured on it whilst its still flagged as CAT C. Once its passed its

Needs to be trailored.

Once its passed VIC and a new V5 issued and you can get it reMOT'd

Don't facelift it whatever you do; yours is the only nice looking version of the Colt!

So you would facelift yours i presume and then scrap the rest? Must be fairly damaged to be a cat c?

nope, easy repair, not much damage at all..

Any ideas why the above car would be classified as 'extensively damaged'? That is the only damage on it, crumpled bonnet and a slightly worse for wear bumper, maybe a slightly bent slam panel.
