Hi fellas.
I'm planning on doing a bit of an audio install over the next months, as cash trickles in.

I've been looking at Vibe stuff, seems to be rather decent.

Seen the Vibe Slick A4 multi channel amp.

And Vibe BlackAir BA v3, 10" and 12" subs.

And Vibe Slick 50 v2 for the front:

I'm buying an Alpine 9880r Head Unit this month.
I've got some JBL GTO 937 6x9s 100w rms ( I know! They're going in a spare parcel shelf and will be replaced as money comes in)

These seem like nice kit, with a fair price for decent performance. So my questions :)

Have I picked total Pap?
Are these well Suited?
What sort of cabling would you recommend, is there a decent package to pick from CarAudio?
I'll make a box, should I be looking at 1-1.5cubic ft ish? Vent hole size?

I'll be buying them in that order. I assume you'll all scream yes to this final question.

Once I've replaced the standard front speakers, and have the sub and amp in the back, should I definately ditch the 6x9s?

Cheers fellas,
Ant

From any of their stuff i've ever experienced its just a real harsh sound quality.

If on a budget stay with JBL I say.

Thanks for the advice :)

In all honesty, its such a common choice I fancied something different :) Still do.

Is there really no sensibe alternative to JBL?

Okey dokes. Let's say I push the boat out a little bit more, and it this kit:

Alpine MRV-F545 - £290
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-mrvf545-p-4031.html

Sub: Alpine SWR-1222D - £120
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-swr1222d-p-4573.html

Doors: Alpine SPR-13C- £70
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-spr13c-p-5660.html

Total £380. Bit more than I'd fancied, but hey :) This good stuff?

Will I have to wire another battery in for this kit?

Ant

I make that £480 not £380 matey.

Just forget the 6*9s no point sound rubbish etc etc

for the front some components would be best if you dont't want the extra hassle the coaxials will do. What size can you doors take?

The alpine amp and sub will go well together and should sound quite good

sound deadening in the doors can make a lot of difference too, especially with mid bass that your sub won't be able to reach.

I'd probably spread the money out like this
£120+ front speakers
£60 sound deadening
£100 amp
£80+ sub and box
£20 wiring

the sub is there to add depth to the front pair, so the fronts should be the main spend with the sub secondary.

I'm currently using a £30 pair of components in the front of my car but if you listen to them you would think they cost a lot more. It's all but the install and how good the source unit is :)

I had a couple of hundred to spend the other month so went and got myself some front comps, amp, and sub and all wiring.

In the end I got it all for 280quid iirc. I run a pair of 5.25" Fusion components in the front and a JBL GTO 1004E amp and JBL GT4 12inch sub. I also put sound damping in the front doors and i'm probably going to do my rear doors soon.

As has been said ditch the 6x9's and get some good front components in there, 6.5" preferably with some damping in the doors and amp them up with a nice 12inch sub in the rear.

For your budget look at

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto1004e-p-6240.html Amp
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/rainbow-slx265-deluxe-p-3852.html Components
and then sub is up to you depending on what sound you listen to. I picked up my sub with box for 22quid from the bay - JBL GT4. If you look on there same can be had and highly recommended for a cheap but good sounding solution.

Sound deadening I got this stuff http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/second-skin-damplifier-door-p-4851.html which lined my front doors and had loads left for the rear doors and probably some in my boot too.

Then all you need is a wiring kit for it all a good 4AWG would sort you out for that kit and no you wouldnt need an extra battery.

Probably get all that for about 300quid all in. Then just need to fabricate some mounts for the components.

SoliD. Thanks very much for the reply fella.

So I take it sound deading makes a big difference? Do i just remove the old foam from the doors and place this instead?

Those rainbows look excellent. Though part of the plan is to ensure that the system is utterly stealthed, so I don't want the tweets visible.

I'm going to check into the mounting capacity in the doors tomorrow, see if I can fit either 6.5 coaxs or still consider the rainbows.

Part of this is for my own enjoyment, so propriety aside I'm building a custom box to fit in the boot. I'll be recarpeting the boot, so I'm considering using that sound deading stuff (or something thinner) as an underlay as well as placing in the doors, anyone got any experience of this?

As stated in the previous post, yes 6x9s are horrible, but I have them, and they'll be going in until I buy comps/coaxials. They'll be stealthed and easily disconnected when I'm sorted.

I was under the impression that that Amp was rather important, so am willing to spend more to ensure it's appropriate. However the JBL does look very nice, and I noticed the List Price stated was considerably higher than the cost! :) I've also noticed that it doesn't seem to do bridging for the amp... Am I being Stupid or would I just bridge it manually? Doesn't state power output of bridging, but I'm assuming 200w at 4ohmish?

Trying to find a suitable Sub with this setup, so if someones willing to suggest that would be great. I'd like to point that whilst it goes against 'audiophile' convention, I listen to a lot of bassy music and because of this, the bassline is very important to me. Whilst I don't want bass to dominate my music experience, being underwhelmed by the subwould be very dissapointing ;)

Would this still be overkill then:

Would the amp be underpowered for it? Yes I'm sad and like the idea of matching kit.

I can get my hands on all all sorts of wire, so I should be fine as far as that's concerned.

Thanks very much for help so far.

I have those Rainbow components in my car. The only speakers in there and they are excellent, great dynamic range and when you give them some 320kbps mp3s to munch through it's great.

Highly reccomended, my mate has them in his car as well paired with a Hertz 12" energy line sub, JL E1400d amp and inPhase rear components. Great sound system, he has a seperate amp for the rainbow's but I can't remember what it is, think it's an Audison of some description

Genesis amps!!! I've had my mono one powering a DLS Audio 12inch sub for 9 years and god knows how many cars, and they both still work perfectly. Alpine headunits are also good, I got one of the first ones that played mp3's and again its still going strong 7-8 years later and has 4x60w output which i think is still one of the highest today?
