F-22 Will Be At RIAT 2008

I booked tickets for last year thinking the Vulcan would make it.

Even though the vulcan obviously didn't make it, I still thought it was pants compared to previous year. Mainly because there was too much american "smarm" to it.
The whiney bird giving it "bombs on target, on time" speech on the tannoy over an over just got to me.

The Vulcan now has its certificate of airworthiness and is displaying at duxford this weekend coming (12th / 13th)

What would you preferred it be called? I wouldn't call it the Spitfire or Hurricane no, those names have already been used. But it seems logical to use the current name. Hurricane > Tornado > Typoon.

Surprised no one has already mentioned that Typhoon has also already been used. Hawker Typhoon here. Hawker seemed to like 'windy' names during WW2. They also used Tempest.

Not sure of a suitable alternative as Eurofighter 'Fart in a bathtub' just doesn't have the right ring to it.

Could have used Tsunami but probably still considered a 'sensitive' word. 'Whirlwind', 'cyclone' ? [shrugs].

Sure about that? Says on the beeb that it's going to be at the RIAT.

Oops, my mistake, thought it was duxford next weekend they were talking about but its Waddington this weekend. Quote below.

You may wish to know that the CAA issued a "Permit to Fly" for the Vucan earlier this afternoon. The aicraft is now on its way to RAF Waddington for the airshow this weekend.

The BBC are way behind - she's been given display authority - she can now fly displays and is planned to fly both days.

VULCAN TO THE SKY

NEWS RELEASE

Triumphant return for Vulcan XH558!
When Vulcan XH558 left RAF Waddington on 23rd March 1993, many thought that, sadly, it would be the last time she would be seen in Lincolnshire and that she would never return. Thanks to the passion, optimism, determination and commitment of so many people, led by the Chief Executive of the Vulcan to the Sky Trust, Dr Robert Pleming, the aircraft which took to the skies once again in October 2007, will now make an emotional return to appear at the Waddington International Airshow on the 5th and 6th July.

XH558 is today destined to receive its all important “Permit to Fly” from the Civil Aviation Authority and this will allow her to fly to RAF Waddington and to appear on static display at the Show, to be seen by the many thousands who will visit.

I have absolutely no interest in planes (once you have seen one you have seen them all, at least to my eyes), but it has been fun to read your enthusiasm :p

Hope you enjoy the show :)

awesome - we're going to waddingtn tomorrow. It didnt look like the Vulcan would make it so this is just the icing on the cake of what should be a great show - weather permitting

We're going Sunday as long as she doesn't break on Saturday! Have to drag the boyfriend along, getting up early, poor long suffering thing :p

just got back - one word - awesome display (that's two). Will upload pics later tonight but we had a great day. Seeing the Vulcan and Lancaster flying together brought a lump to my throat.

Traffic was terrible though - queued for 2 hours to get in and same to get out!

So guess what I saw fly over my house today, not one, not two, but three F-22s trailing right behind and almost underneath a tanker, which I was told they need to in UK airspace due to the small radar cross section of the F-22.

I got my ticket today for Sunday. My folks live in Highworth, so I'll be cycling down from there which is about 4 miles or so from Fairford. I haven't been in ages, so I'm looking forward to it.
