Micro Helicopters advice please ??

Thanks for that sorry if questions sounded stupid ;)

I put the battery on charge it was red to start been on about 15 mins now gone green though that was a bit quick tbh?

I wondered that to begin with too :D

Battery should be fine, I found mine charged pretty quickly too. Once green it's charged.

ok brilliant I will go take it off charge yipee just got to go out and get some batteries for the contoller :D

Thanks much appreciated

No such thing as silly questions when you're trying something new. I had a charger where the light went out when it had finished.
Yep take it off when it goes green, it won't take long to charge, it's only a little battery. Don't be tempted to stick it back on again for a "top up" or leave it on charge for ages. LiPol's don't like too much charge! The charger should keep everything nice and safe. Oh, don't run the battery until it's completely dead either.
When the heli won't take off anymore, don't just spin the blades.

Get a vid of your first flight and post on here.

I'll try get a vid when my training gear comes tomorrow!

ok somthing is wrong with mine I got it all switched on everything matched up but nothing ...then the bllody thing shot across the room like a rocket
I managed to turn it off and had another go, no throttle at all then the thing starts up on its own and go across the room again

help please

to start up...

-have both heli and transmitter powered down
-on your transmitter move the left throttle (vertical) trim next to stick to min position (down)
-make sure throttle (left stick) is down
-switch on transmitter the lights will flash to show it's trying to bond with heli
-you now have 5-10 seconds to connect heli battery
-while heli is sitting level on ground connect battery.. as soon as you connect battery move your hands away and let the gyro etc set themselves up

wait till the transmitter lights stops flashing, you will also hear the servos on heli 'twitch' as they move to position...

it should not start on it's own if you follow the above... fingers crossed, not very good at explaining stuff :\

I got to the point that I heard it all twitch and then nothing worked and then all of a sudden it shot off.

now looking at the cog on the motor and the big drive gear is hanging lower than the motor cog if that makes sense ? what does your llok like is it engaged ?
I will post picture of mine in a moment

thats unrelated to the throttle problem but if you look about half way down the main rotor shaft there is a little locking collar, this should be holding the shaft and keeping the gear in position and be flush against the top of the frame.

there should be no vertical play in the rotor shaft, there will be if this collar has slipped, you'll need to loosen the grub screw, push the main gear up and push collar down snug then retighten...

edit: thanks for piccy I'll draw on it to show you

so loosen where the yellow circle is, then push it down snug while pushing up on the gear... then while holding snug retighten. to check it's done ok check the is no play up and down on the main shaft...also check the fit against the motor pinion is not over tight, it should mesh nicely but not so much as to make motor run hot. (you can adjust this play by loosening one motor screw underneath and swinging motor back slightly, should not need doing though)

edit: maybe the motor pinion has moved ? :(

thanks for that I will give it a go..also on the tail rotor which came off I think I got it all back together ok but the plastic shaft does it have a clip or somthing

looks good to me, just check that the two gears mesh constantly as you spin the tail rotor... the pins in the rotor fit into two holes in the gear.

At Last got it working thanks for the help really appreciated :);)

Amazing little thing didn't get it far off the ground but got it doing a figure of 8 so I am really chuffed battery flat now just letting it cool down then I will pop it on charge and have another go.

This really is the best thing I have ever taken up!

just to check again on the pin that holds the gears and tail rotor there isnt a c clip or anything that I have lost in the crash? as after about 5 mins the pin started to come out a bit causing the gears not to mesh so it started spining on the spot.

thanks again ;)

Figure of 8.

Is this your first heli?

if so, omfg you're doing well.

First heli and a figure of 8. I just imagine I am inside it, get my brain thing that way. It wasn't a very smooth figure of 8 but it was a figure of 8.

lost a main rotor now the screw came out. I have found the screw and luck that was it is so samll but, can I get the bugger back....no way it is tiny!

I was just about to post the same. Broke the blue rotor in a bad landing... found a decent screw driver- got the screw out and lost the screw about 4 times before finally getting it back in.

Try not to brake the main rotor, it will take you a while to replace unless you're a professional keyhole surgeon

coax heli's are just so stable, but they at least teach your the 'sticks' on controller. depends on your budget I guess... probably better to go the sim route and jump straight in on 4 chan fixed pitch like walkera 4#3.

i think the honeybee is quite a lot larger... and when crashing the smaller the heli the less damage so I think the 4#3 is ideal for learning, it's the only heli i've ever had that I dont mind grabbing with hand out of air :)

thanks for your reply :)

think I might go for the walkera then perhaps get something around the size of the honeybee later for a bit of outdoor flying too

Just one query - I'm presuming that the walkera is unsuitable for flying outdoors sue to its small size and the honeybee is a bit on the large size for indoor flight - but is the Lama suitable for both indoors and outdoors?

the resistance to damadge and #fact its a 'proper' helecopter (almost) is attracting me to the walkera + sim route but I'm also tempted by the lama as it would be easier to fly for a beginner

I believe as a general rule, anything that is small enough to fly indoors will probably be too lightweight to fly outdoors and anything heavy enough to fly properly outdoors will be too big to be flown indoors.

well done on getting it running.. and flying fig 8s already, dam your good! :), how you finding straight hovering ?

there is no clip or anything on tail rotor, it's just a friction fit, maybe you could bodge something to stop it moving off the axle, not sure what but thats half the fun :)

the axle should like the bottom piccy below..

not sure why they didn't design a clip for the open end of it though :(, maybe a very thin piece of tubing would do it (or use some insulation from some wire pushed over axle)
