peco and magnex exhausts go bust

Magnex have been around for at least 30 years, and Peco were founded back in the mid-60's IIRC. Peco have always had a bit of a poor reputation for quality and performance though.

i kinda thinking the same. this current "recession" is nothing but a media hyped up "slow" down in economics, not a recession....

of corse if the media keep stuffing it down our throats it MAY happen anyway. (ie people stop spending because of coming recession that media report on, which inturn creates it?)

I couldn't disgree more with that. If you don't think we are heading for a recession you're dilluded. Growth was only 0.3% this quarter and will be negative when the next set of figures are out.

I'm pretty certain Mongoose Exhausts are made by Collins Performance - Not Magnex (CLS Technologies)

no mongoose are owned by collins performance and made by CLF ( not cls ) aka magnex collins dont have the capabiltiy to produce there own stuff * certanly they didnt last year

Stainless steel prices possibly. Its having a huge effect across many different industries.

Not just stainless steel, steel prices on the whole are going through the roof. It's certainly starting to affect the company I work for (structural steelwork), and there are more price hikes predicted.

Its affected the motor trade too, copper and lead prices have driven brake pipe and battery prices up virtually 100% in the last year or so. Exhausts, towbars and brake components have all increased by about 10-20% too.

its a slow down.... you cant have growth all the time.

last year the country was whining that house prices was stupidly high, so now the house prices start falling off and "hopefully" returning to normal we start running around screaming RECESSION!!11 arrrrrg. Its gona be a drop off like the early 90s, not a full blown recession like in the late 70s to early 80s.

anyway, this is motors.

I think the builders that have just been made redundant may disagree. The housing market is already in recession which tends to effect consumer confidence and spending.

However I can't see this being the problem for an exhaust manufacturer just yet. More likely been hit by higher production costs and competition of cheap imports.

i may agree too job/budget cuts everywhere, but does that make it a recession? or just people being smart and stopping there overspending with money they never had in the first place?

maybe it will happen in the next 6months, but its NOT happening now.

I have a Peco on my Astra GTE and looking back it was god awful.

Peco/Magnex are exhausts for Halfords/Ripspeed regulars. :p

Sorry, but I think your heads buried in the sand.

Yep, but in this case for exhausts particularly SS. In fact most steels ferrous and non ferrous metals have accelerated in market price.

I would be a shame to see Magnex go, their systems are reasonably popular with the Evo owners.

I've got a Mongoose on mine and I must say it's a well fitting quality exhaust which has survived numerous encounters with sleeping policemen.

This is bad, it means an uprise of badly made custom beantins.

As I said before there are only really two decent makes maybee three out there, but you pay your money you make your choice.... theyll allways be a customer for shoddy but cheap goods, lets face it if youve got two options and ones half as much as the other what are most people going to buy...

Didn't Collin's used to source from Blueflame but call them Mongoose? I'm sure there was some tie-in there.
Blueflame are pretty good, I got them to custom the one for my M3, they now produce M3 systems;)

I have a magnex system.

I also think this credit crunch is tosh, my CC limit was raised by 50% again automatically the other day.

more temptation! :( :p

The credit crunch is most definetly real, the amusement, vending, car wash and pub industries I'm involved in at work are really struggling. Pubs are shutting left right and centre.
