Micro Helicopters advice please ??

thanks for that much appreciated I will have a go in the morning. aslo found this site tonight shipping looks expensive but some good bits Il liked the Ultra-Miniature MIA TUFF ™ Struts/Skids
Landing Gear Kit

http://www.micro-flight.com/Walkera 4-3.htm

I have Tuff skids on their way to me now :D.
As far as I'm aware micro-flight don't ship outside the US. I ordered from http://www.rchobbyhelicopter.com/ as they do ship worldwide and stock 99% of the micro-flight mods.

thanks for the link how much did they cost with shipping ? and did they say how long before they arrive?

Shipping worked out about £12, so I made sure I ordered a good few bits (spare battery, motor etc) along with the Micro-flight bits.

Just got my first stable 6 second hover :)

I think the thing I was doing before was taking the throttle up to slow, it kinda of helps if you "punch" the throttle to get it up if that make sense...still having some trouble with it drifting to the right on take off but I think that is me over correcting?

I think the best bit of advice for new flyers like me is dont be affraid of the throttle to slow, and you are making it harder in my opinion.

yesterday I was thinking I wish I had got the co-axial version as I was really having trouble hovering..but today I am really pleased just takes practice and it will come, and I think far more of an achievment.

also training kits are for girls :p just kidding lolism;)

hahah. I took mine off last night for a while, doesn't seem to make a difference inflight so to speak, i just seem to do less damage on landing with them on!

I'm also in the process of hovering, held it for around 4-5 seconds then it banked off to the right and I wasn't able to control it in time. Going to have a good bit of fun when I get in from work.

Its funny how it does that isn't it. Before flying a helicopter I sort of assumed once you had it hovering it would sort of stay hovering ...how wrong was I ? ;) just as you think I got it it goes all wrong. One thing I did notice seems to be a natural reaction when you get it off the ground you want to shut it down again straight away without thinking ?? kind of like apanic I think:eek:

Yeah, I gave it a little too much power two nights ago, almost hit the ceiling and shut the power off resulting in a broken rotor :D It's definately not as easy as it seems.

I'm looking forward to getting the hang of it as I have a Larger outdoor electric 4ch heli that I wouldn't mind flying.

I am learning to fly in the Kitchen at the minute since I nearly took out the TV  not much room really but I guess learning in a confined space will pay off later. Yesterday I got fed up with the Kitchen and went out into the garden, flew about 10 meters or so made a nice change although it wasn't reall controlled.

I cant wait to get to the point I can fly a circuit in the living room.

How was it in the garden? I might try mine on the decking but it's a little too close to the pond- don't want to be feeding the fish a helicopter :D

We're in the process of moving office at work and have a new 3000sq feet office- completely empty. I would love to get it in there before we move stuff in and give it a proper go with no risk of clipping something

The Garden was great and it was a little breezy, I am waiting for a really still sumers day will be no trouble then. I know what you mean about flying without the risk of clipping somthing hence why I went to the garden. Iwas going past Cardington the other day they have huge hangers would be reaaly good to fly in one of those so much room.

I wonder how much more stable a co-axial one is ? and if it would be worth getting one for indoors as well.

It would be a lot more stable, and in my opinion a lot less fun. I wouldn't mind the Walkera 38# Tandem once I master the 4#3b though.

Coax are stable once set up. I can "fly" mine in a hover for 30 odd seconds without touching the sticks, it tends to drift slightly after that.
As you are only moving the bottom rotor, it seems to hang from the top one.
I Started flying at lunch times in an open, empty part of the office, much more fun than the living room. When I get better I was flying figure 8's around the pillars.

The only damage I have done to it is when my bag fell off the seat on top of it, crushed the tail plastic.

I agree, I think once you mastered the 4#3 a coax heli would seem dull... once you have the 4#3 totally sorted you'll literally be able to fly any large heli no problem at all..

I'm using mine for training for BeltCP, once I have circuits and nose in hovers 100% gonna take BeltCP to a field and have some fun. Gonna take a few weeks I think though.

Posted this in another thread but is a really bad video of BeltCP shot in the same indust unit as the 4#3 video.. it's way to big and needs to be outside.

Is there a big difference in the controls? I read (i think it's in this thread) that walkera are planning on doing a CP heli, might be cool!

bigger heli's feel exactly the same, but much less twitchy and more stable.. yeah the CP version of the 4#3 will have a very high rotor speed in comparison and feel a lot more stable, it won't be as crash proof though :(

main difference on BeltCP is there is 'idle-up' mode, which is to scary to use at the moment..afaik when you switch it it on, throttle movement past half way on controller gives positive pitch on blades, and then as you decrease below half way it gives negative pitch... so while inverted maximum lift is by pulling throttle all the way down.

when I first got it I crashed it on ground by having throttle closed as usual and putting idle up on, the blades revved to max with full negative pitch and of course heli fell over and smashed wooden blades to shreds :( ..later learnt you only switch to idle up once the rotors spinning DOH

deffo something to learn on the sim :) (can hover ok upside down on sim but usually crash after a while)

Currently unsure whether to go for the 4#3, 4#3A or 4#3B, swaying towards the 4#3A as my experience with rc cars and alloy/anodised parts tells me that something else will break instead and it will probably be more expensive to replace than the bit the alloy part replaced!

4#3 - £63 Delivered
4#3A - £75 Delivered
4#3B - £90 Delivered

...are the best prices I can find.

I'd go for the 4#3b just because I think it has a fair few improvements like better shaped blades, and the alloy parts on rotor head reduce play in the controls and probably wear better..

I dont think the first 4#3s were 2.4GHz either...

the 4#3a 2.4GHz still flys great though, it's what I have atm, though have a b on the way
