That's correct. It should function as a basic phone out of the box.

You only have to register through iTunes to activate the additional iPhone only features such as visual voicemail etc.
 
So what's the best way to order and get a 16gb asap now?

I went into town @ 8:15 and everywhere only had 8gbs left. (CPW had 10 16GBs and sold out at the 7AM opening, O2 had less and sold out at 8:02).

Anyone know when stores are getting restocked (to come in and buy one) or are stores taking reservations yet?

What about online ordering? I saw earlier that CPW website had 8GBs but not 16GBs, and now its saying out of stock for both!

Well someone needs to tell mine to work then because the phone screen is requesting a usb cable and itunes, when i do this the activation server is down and the phone won't do owt else.
 
I take it the old sim card with the old iPhone is 3G capable, as I'm getting 3G signal with it, it does say 3G on the 2nd from bottom line too
