Which 4850?

No idea was fine was running an 8800gt 2 weeks ago and it's been dormant for 2 weeks maybe you need to keep using it or it breaks :p

Don't worry Will, yours should be ok because its chilling in it's own thermal zone at the bottom of the case while C64's was doubling up as an exhaust fan and maybe boiled to death, either that or he just got plain unlucky! :(

I have a theory moving the PSU below all the heat extends its life, if your HX520W does go belly up then my theory is being binned! :o

Went for gigabyte too has a 3 year warranty and I have had a bad experience with a sapphire 1950 pro was told on sapphire forums by admins that my corsair 520hx wasn't good enough to power it lol
on further investigation it was the fact that the voltage chips have inadequate cooling so I had to rma it under the dsr, so that kind of put me off them for life.

LOL so it wasn't the sapphire after all. :D

Lads, all I can say is that a PSU tester is a must have item!

In C64's example the symptoms were more obvious and that would have been a 4 min job to diagnose, but sometimes the PSU can be Half-Dead and this throws a curve ball into the trouble-shooting process, its not fun!

C64 I hope you get it sorted and I also hope you have a spare PSU to keep you going over the weekend.

Yep & they dont cost allot.

How do you use them? How will they tell you if its half broken? I think I'm having problems with my PSU at high loads where the power cuts out. With 41A on the 12v rail, an e8400 @ 4ghz and a voltmodded hd4850 shouldnt be a problem. Only 2 hard drives as well. High load is created by running orthos and furmark at the same time. My power meter reads just under 400w at peak.

I dont want to send it to corsair only for them to send it back simply saying I need a more powerful PSU.

They don't test them they just send you a new one. There's no way my psu was half dead it was running an overclocked 8800gt only 2 weeks ago just fine never had any problems what so ever I have been ati twice in 2 years each time have had problems.

I've had ATI cards since I last had a tnt2 pro. Never had problems with any cards.

In my case, the power suddenly cutting out has to be a problem with power, since it only handles under high load situations where both the gpu and cpu is stressed.

Also, what do you mean they dont test them. They have to, do they simply throw away the psu you send in?

According to yellowbeard (corsair rep)you simply send it in and they give you another.

I see what you mean. They send the new psu instantly unlike lengthy rma waits you get with other companies. I reckon they still have the time to test them though and to be honest it shouldnt take that long to test a PSU.

that's not the point I have seen yellowbeard reply to people just having a slight noise issue with them to send it to us and we will replace it.
anyway not holding my breath for a fast rma I'm having a bad month.
