*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Yeah but we dont live in the 90's anymore.. I mean, facebook, msn etc? it's all indirectly free. And you're generally gonna be near a computer pretty much all of the time..

And a contract for 1 1/2 years? :( with the pace that technologys changing...

Who says it will be 1.5 years? People were saying that when the original iPhone came out but my missus has been able to upgrade hers after less than 6 months to a new 3G iPhone.

lets be honest, I can't see Apple making a habit of that tbh. It was a PR exercise adding in functions that many said should have been there at launch and trying not to annoy existing customers.

I'd be suprised if they did that again tbh.

We can speculate all we want but I do believe there will be an upgrade method for existing users should another iPhone come out. It might be similar to the V1 16gb way where you could pay for the device then connect it to your existing iPhone tariff. Either way both the v1 16gb and 3G upgrade methods were a lot cheaper than upgrading any other premium phone, especially when given residuals on old handsets.

Ok, I was syncing a load of music to my phone last night when it iTunes crashed and now every time I connect my phone iTunes just freezes and fails to respond.

Any clues anyone?

Phone arrived today, awesome!

1 question though... I already had an O2 sim (non-iPhone) and elected to keep the same number. However, a new SIM was scanned at point of sale, and the saleswoman seemed to imply that I would have to use this new SIM. Thing is, it has a different number to my old one. Do I just stick the old SIM into the new iPhone (even though it was on a non-iPhone contract) or will the new SIM be updated with my old by O2?

Bit new to this. :)

Is anyones date and time wrong with messages and phone calls that come through?

I noticed it on my V1 after updating to 2.0

Noticing it now with my V2 also :(

Yeah I had this, for some reason it had set my locale to somewhere in the USA, change that and its sorted.

Ok my contract has gone through, they've sent me my first bill payment and my online account is showing my full allowance ready to go..

Yet my phone has no service? Activated it through iTunes, but during that stage i put in the number i intend to use with it (Have the Pac code just need to switch it over) so could it be the iPhone thinks it's one number and the sim thinks it's another? Would a restore take me back to before i activated it, or just after?

Also, in regards to contracts, I was under the impression that if you go into any shop on the high-street and take out a contract, it will be for eighteen months. It's only through resellers on the net that you can find 12 month contracts.

URGENT HELP PLEASE!

I got my phone yesterday, and have synched it up to Itunes and activated the phone. However it just constantly comes up with No Signal as if it has a non Iphone Sim inside it. It is a new contract but when I plugged it in I activated and then told itunes to use my old Iphone backup to copy all my contacts etc across.

My old iphone was unlocked so when it's copied the data across I haven't broken anything etc have I? I was under the impression I would just put the new sim in the phone activate it and it would work.

Any help is really appreciated.

Benji your in the same position as me. Apparently CPW/O2/Apple have to register the SIM. Ring up O2.

Cheers for the fast reply.

Is that register it on their systems online, or actually go in the store and get them to register it? As im off with my mate in a bit to help him get a new phone so I can always give o2 grief while im there.

I've been phoning up CPW all around my area and they all say roughly the same thing. Their warehouse is clear of all stocks with 8GB models coming in over the next week or so. No idea about the 16GB versions. Cheers Apple :/

Actually that might not be right. Just spoke to O2 and their Gateway system which gets people onto their network is down. I was advised to turn the phone on and off every few hours and service should appear. Aslong as you have been able to activate via iTunes, service will appear...at some point.

I'm heading to CPW to check the demo unit screens to see if the yellow screen tint is the same as mine.

Bit of a laugh this is.

Just called o2 because I still have 'No Service', nearly 24 hrs after registering it up with iTunes.

Seems like loads and loads of orders are being put through manually. She basically said that these manual entries will take 2-3 days to have their phones activated. Call back in 3 days if you dont have a service.

Quite amazing considering I ordered and gave details over the phone to CPW on the Thursday at approx 10:30am.

Not impressed by the roll out I must say. Total balls up imo.
