*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Been away for a week and this thread has grown into a monster! Don't fancy going through 20+ pages and was wondering if anyone could give any info on the PAYG handsets?

When will they hit the shops and for how much roughly?

Christmas, apparently, and no idea.

Latest info:

between October/Christmas

Probably between £250-£300 for the 8GB.

'I have a receipt from O2 that shows on it Apple Iphone 16 gig, basically had to register for a sim only deal in the mean time to make me an O2 customer (i'm on orange atm) but then they said they'd hold it for the 11th only and hand over the receipt that they gave me that clearly states Apple iphone 16g 11th July 2008 - and then they'll give me the phone on whichever of the Tariff's i pick

Now, there is a bit of a problem with this.
Firstly, they have done this to raise their sim only figures in store, very smart.
Secondly, you need to be on a simonly deal for a min 30 day period before you can upgrade your account one that has a handset - normal or iphone.

So... you may actually not be able to get the iphone on the 11th. Unless you have had this sim only deal for more than 30 days.

Sorry to disapoint but it worked just fine, sailed into O2 picked it up, all is good. had the sim only deal for 6 days prior to upgrade... ;)

My phone isn't sending txts for some reason, I can call out and recieve them but when I send a message to my other phone it's just not coming through. The day I got the phone I sent a message to my mum which worked fine...what's going on?!

Also, anybody else a bit dissapointed in the battery life? I've not used it that much today but i'm down to nearly empty in one day.

I can empty the battery on my 2G iPhone in a day with really heavy use, tend to get 2 days out of a charge if I forget to dock it at night though.

Its a shame email isnt as common place for general comms between people as it is in the US otherwise the iPhone (either gen) would be great for me, as i prefer email to txt. Unfortunatelly, no-one i know personally (know plenty professionally) has mobile email setup. :(.

It usually takes a few charges/discharges to hit maximum life with most modern devices.
Which is odd considering the 'no memory' attributes of Li-ion.

Have the Apple shops got a lot of 16gb's in then? Thinking of going to Manchester tomorrow.....

As of first thing saturday the manchester arndale had plenty of 16gb's left. I was one of (, if not) the first person to walk out of there today with one, I was actually out of there by 10am, took less than 20 minutes. You might want to call them before making the trek in though, as they've had a full day of trading since then!
