support our farmers

Stuff them, it's called competition get over it.

GTFO.

My mum and dad are farmers and I dabble abit, prices are better than they were at the moment for milk, but cattle feed prices are high and the actual animals themselves are fetching v.high prices at the market (Dairy cattle)

They work more hours than I find acceptable.. all the money is tied up in the actual farm !

Do you realise that the purchasing power of the big supermarkets dictates the price, not the farmers?

If all the farmers united to sell their produce at one price the supermarkets would have no choice but to buy at the higher price. Their inability to all stick together allows the supermarkets to dictate such low prices.

Problem is imported food isn't taxed enough.. Did I just say that .
We should produce enough food to support ourself, rather than shipping it all in and shipping all the money out. It's not good for the economy.

Way to just ignore global economy and importing of most of our foods by supermarkets.

Do you think food comes from a replictor? So funny people make fun of farmers when it's most important job to our society.

yeah roll eyes :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

agricultural policy forces europeans to buy expensive domestically produced food rather than cheap imports. **** farmers. crooks.

so its not good for an economy to be efficient and have capital allocated to where produce is maximised? (i.e. producing little food in britain).

It's not good exporting money to other countrys for what ever reason. food, energy or anything else. You want to be a et exporter not a net importer.

The supermarkets aren't in a position to import everything, and the government can more easily restrict imports.
They important most goods, far more than home grown/produced stuff. As I said it should be taxed more to discourage it.

Is that not a cartel !?

trading intangible or capital goods for food is not net import...

edit: referring to the bold, maintaining a positive trade balance aka mercantilism was rubbished at the end of the 18th century.

With the way the world is farming is now a business that needs to take place on an industrial scale. Sure there will always be niche and specialist producers of meats and dairy products etc, but for the bulk of foodstuffs meat and dairy farming will go the way of grain production moreso than it has already.

its impossible for a country to be a net importer or exporter, trade in goods and capital is always balanced in the long run. trading intangible or capital goods for food is not net import...

It doesn't have to balance. I'm not just talking about food. I'm pretty sure we are a net importer and have been for some time.
