I agree with supporting farmers but I also believe you won't find a poor farmer![]()
Wealth is probably in the farm, not monetary. And for the hours worked, stress and loss of earnings if the cattle are infected, pretty lousy tbh..

That really is strange, what with the produce in supermarkets coming from farmers and all.
Stuff them, it's called competition get over it.
most should have gone out of business years ago
Do you realise that the purchasing power of the big supermarkets dictates the price, not the farmers?
If all the farmers united to sell their produce at one price the supermarkets would have no choice but to buy at the higher price.
Do you think food comes from a replictor? So funny people make fun of farmers when it's most important job to our society.
Way to just ignore global economy and importing of most of our foods by supermarkets.
It's not good for the economy.
so its not good for an economy to be efficient and have capital allocated to where produce is maximised? (i.e. producing little food in britain).
They important most goods, far more than home grown/produced stuff. As I said it should be taxed more to discourage it.The supermarkets aren't in a position to import everything, and the government can more easily restrict imports.
If all the farmers united to sell their produce at one price the supermarkets would have no choice but to buy at the higher price. Their inability to all stick together allows the supermarkets to dictate such low prices.
It's not good exporting money to other countrys for what ever reason. food, energy or anything else. You want to be a et exporter not a net importer.
its impossible for a country to be a net importer or exporter, trade in goods and capital is always balanced in the long run. trading intangible or capital goods for food is not net import...
Is that not a cartel !?
