4870 bench

I use 790/1050 on my 4870, haven't felt it necessary to push it further really. Stays cool at these temps (load around 62c with stock cooler at 50%, which I drop to 30-35% when not running a game). I haven't had any artefacts or issues yet, and am pretty sure I could push things much further.

But I know in the past, you just get greedier and greedier until you end up doing some damage and reducing overall potency for the card. So I'm leaving it how it is.

Got to say though, that curiosity still lingers.
 
50%!?!?!, that silent for you?

ATi must be making different coolers or something for there cards as 35% is too loud for me for everyday use and 50% makes me want to take the cooler off and smash it into a million pieces its that loud and for 100% I put me ear defenders on :(.

Mine sounds like the missus has left her hair dryer runnin at 50% :eek:

come to think of it i could save some electric if she dries her hair at the exhaust of my gfx card whilst i play crysis :p

If she dries her hair using the exhaust of the 4870 she wont have any hair left and she'll be leaving you for ruining her hair :o
 
Lol noise is my 3870 at 75 percent fan and my zalman fatality in performance mode takes over the sound in my living room just don't seem to care lol just want some cooling.
 
Jumping on the artifacts bandwagon from the previous page.

Got them (well...complete vertical lines covering the display) during GRID (1680x1050, everything on Max, 8xMSAA) when overclocked at 790/1090. Now just had the same thing happen in Devil May Cry 4 after an hours play - but not five hours earlier today - at 750/1050.

Looks like I'm headed back to stock settings :|
