*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Just had a nice phonecall from CPW.

My 16gb that was promised today is not going to be delivered as they have overcommited on stock.

Anyone know of any in the liverpool area?

I was in my local carphone whorehouse to buy an invisible shield protector and they were saying that every shop has oversold. He said personally they sold over a hundred iphones yet they were only received 45 in the end.

I believe CPW had a big bunch in a central warehouse that shops were able to sell along with their carried stock. Seems something went wrong as they have sold way more than they have. Gonna be a while he said before everyone gets theirs.

Oh and I walked into my local o2 at 12:30 on Friday. Was out by 2pm. Took over an hour to fill out the forms!

Still 'NO SERVICE'.... not that bothered as my PAC hasn't arrived yet but it makes you wonder. I think this fiasco is gonna go on for weeks until absolutely everyone has been put online.

Ive just set mine up with my work email (couldn't do it until V2.0 software came out apparently)

Very impressed, easy to use. Just need to sort out my outlook contacts now.

Some good tips in here.

"I found this out from an earlier 2.0 beta, but with the keyboard up, you can press and hold on keys and it will pop up alternate forms of letters for other languages. For the period it will also pop up .com, .net, .org, etc. This applies to the .com button as well when typing in URLs. "

1.4 firmware done that too (well the accents anyway)

It's also on the guided tour of iphone 3G. yes i watched it :o

i would love to find out if birmingham have any but i've been in the phone queue for 68 minutes... takin the apple a bit :(

not going to go if i'm not definitely going to get one when i get there... is there any other way to check stock levels in the day without calling them?

Next time I have to edit yet another of your posts, I put an arrow through your apple too (and you might get suspended, ho hum).

Will check mine at home tonight, I've stuck in my old O2 SIM so I'm not without a phone, but the reception (at work) is 1 bar, my old 2G was full.

Going to get an exchange, but I've been into CPW and there all pretty much a bunch of a**holes, not one of them have a customer 'service' bone in their bodies. No indication of when stock will be in and they won't sit on aside for me.

I got mine on launch day at 11:30 from the O2 shop at The Fort. I walked straight in, no queues and only 2 customers. I got the last 16Gb one on the day but they had lots of 8s left and may have got some more in now (unlikely but you never know!) Have you given them a ring?

I was getting a bit concerned about reception on mine too, I was wondering whether mine was faulty as I'm only seeing 2 or 3 bars at home. My work phone is a K800i which has a full 5 bars on 3G. However when out and about the other night I compared mine with a friend's iPhone 3G and he has the same level of reception. I've just tried disabling 3G and then I get a full 5 bars. Weird. I suppose the K800i could be lying to me, as I don't recall ever seeing the 3G signal being anything under 5 bars but to be honest, even with 1 to 3 bars of reception on the iPhone I've never had any problems making or receiving calls.

For those that do have their iPhones working I've just signed up for a 14 day trial of izymail (v3.izymail.com) which allows you IMAP access to Hotmail accounts. If I remember that I read this morning it's £9.95 a year, which doesn't seem bad value if you want to hold onto your email address.

I've now got my hotmail and gmail (direct) set-up and I'm very impressed with the mail handling and interface.

Very tempted to do this, hotmail not having pop3 or imap sucks.

Might do that, wasn't happy about pluging my hotmail password into a companys website i know little about!

I did some research first and everything seems legit, but it is a risk.

Still is MS won't give IMAP support I'm going to move away from them anyway. If my account gets hijacked then that will just quicken the process.

I've just got back from the Regent Street Apple store with my white iPhone: 2.5-3 hour wait in the queue, and while they were making no promises, they were telling people who weren't willing to queue for a long lunchbreak that if they came back tonight (store closes at 9pm) they would almost certainly have plenty left.

And in answer to my own question, even if you are an existing O2 customer and still in contract, like me, you can still take out a new contract no probs.

One word of advice though, part of the O2 authentication system wasn't working while I was there, so make sure you bring your driving licence and one other form of ID. Two bills wasn't good enough for one of the chaps waiting in queue with us.

I'm now on the hunt for an iPhone, rang my local o2 shop today and he knew exactly what I was going to ask funnely enough!
He said to keep ringing each day.

I already have a contract with o2, it ends in 2 months, will they do me any kind of deal on an upgrade or do i pay same rate as a new contract?

So they do actually have 16Gb version there for the masses? If that's the case then a wee trip up to London this evening might be in order! Queues are horrendous are they? Maybe they are like that all day!
