Nvidia 280 power connectors?

Hi, am building a new sys for my uncle with an Asus Gtx280 in it. The card has One 6pin and one 8 pin pci-x power connectors on it. The seasonic only has 2 6pin pci-x power connectors.

Just wondered how to power this beast? There are a few adapter leads with the gfx card, one has two 6 pin inputs to one 8 pin, should i just use this and leave the 6 pin on the card empty?

Any advise very much appreciated! I dont wanna blow all this shiny new kit up!

Edit: There is a 2x molex to 6pin connector in the box also, should i plug that in aswell?

You need an 8x Pin and a 6x Pin connected (i think, not sure if you can just use 2x 6x Pins, but if you can then just plug them both in from the PSU), but if you do need the 8x Pin, and the 8x Pin adapter in the box requires both the PSU's 6x Pins, then you'll need to use those for that, and then use the other adapter thats in the box (the 4x Pin molex to 6x Pin) to give you the 6x Pin the card also needs. :)

Ok cool thanks, im guessing Asus would have included everything in the box, im not sure many PSU's have a dedicated 8pin for the gfx, i would imagine only the newest.

I will let my uncle know that his electricity bill is no doubt gonna go thru the roof ;)

The card requires an 8-pin and a 6-pin connector.

The Asus comes with a 2*6-pin to 1*8pin adaptor, and a 2*molex to 1*6-pin adaptor.

Like yours, my PSU had only 2*6-pin adaptors. So, I used these to power the 8-pin input, and used the molexes to power the 6-pin adaptor. It works just fine.
 
TTake 850

I ended up buying two new power supplies for my new toys. The Thermatake 850 Cable management has 2 x 6 pin and 2 x 8 pin.

On my two 4870 cards I had to use the two 8pin to 6pin adapters to downgrade them, as the 4870's only have 2 x 6 pin connectors.

The other rig's gtx280 has a 8 pin and a 6pin. Just used one of each on that.

TT850 .... very nice Power supply :)
 
Well i built the beast, Q9450 Gtx280 and 4gig of dominator. It totally demolishes anything i can throw at it.

As i bonus i can fry bacon on top of the card :)
