S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

bit marmite really.when you get into it though it is a great game.if you judge it by the first few levels then youll miss a great game.
 
Caution Spoiler!!!!!! Did anyone else's finale involve currency??? Ending seemed.... unusual.... There are multiple ending's though.
 
Currency is one of the 'bad'/'untrue' endings :) Means you've got stacks of money and not much else.

Game goes on for a fair bit after that, if you take the 'other' route.
 
i have always been drawn to dark apocalyptic films and no different with games, this is my kind of gaming experience.

honestly , the last stalker in some parts, scared the **** outta me.


i think it all comes down to how much of yourself you invest in a game like this, which determines the level of quality of the experience.

You REALLY have to love this type game for you to get anything out of it.
 
I didnt get stalker at all first time round. played the first couple of levels and didnt touch it ever again. I was amazed at how little ammo as about and how many bullets I had to pump into someone before they died :p

Bought STALKER 1 again last month, not installed it yet. Need to find decent mod for it. Any ideas? Im just after more ammo and a "hardcore" mode like cod4.

Then why did you even bother reading the thread and then posting in it?

It strikes me as more than not caring about the game. There's something deeper there. Did STALKER bully you when you were young? Steal your lunch money perhaps?

@the OP: I'll definitely check this out when I'm home from work. I really loved the idea of STALKER though I could never properly get into it. Hopefully a new iteration of the series will give me an excuse to give it another try.
 
Can't wait, should hopefully have a new rig to play this on by the time it comes out. Will probably play through stalker again also, just to get back into it, lol. Thats the thing about stalker, it's not a game you can just pick up an play, it's more like an "experience". It's one of the main reasons why I always try to play it late at night, since I'm less likely to be distracted and plus it ups the scare factor a little. :p
 
I'm more excited about Clear Sky than any other forthcoming game tbh, I was late coming to Stalker and yes, it was a mess in places but absolutely superb in others. I want to see what happens if they get it right.
 
For those of you that want to play through the original Stalker with some mods, try one of these -

Oblivion Lost - A (very good) attempt to get Stalker more like the original 'vision' of the game. It adds lots of cut out features like all the original monsters and mutants, driveable cars more weapons and loads more.

Priboi Story - A whole new storyline, just about to be updated to patch 1.1. Similer idea to Oblivion lost just not following the original Strelok storyline.

Its like playing the game for the first time all over again with either of these mods :cool:

Other smaller mods worth looking out for are

Float32 - improves perfromance and visuals by tweaking the shaders
Stalker Weather Overhauled - (not compatible with float32) as it says it makes the weather effects much better, it looks lovely. This mod includes a great mod called Sky4ce 1.78 which gives a great depth of field effect and proper motion blur (if you want it)
Particle Enhancement 2 - Improves the particle effects i.e. better bullet impact effects, better anomaly effects etc. This can be used in conjunction with a mod called Blood Particles which gives you gibs! its a subtle effect and really works well

The only thing that put my off the first one was the weapons, not only would it take around 6/8 rounds to kill some-one with a AK47 the accuracy of them was so awful.

Hopefully they'll sort this out

I'm playing through the original at the moment, and really enjoying it. However, as it has been said there are some bugs that are stoping me from finding it truely awesome. The job system seems to be a joke. It seems to be accepting jobs i havent told it I want to, and the map is telling me objectives are in some of the wrong places! I hope it gets better..
