How do you import maps!??!

Downloading the Map Files from the STEX

1) Find a map to be downloaded by searching the STEX. Note the name of the map.
2) Navigate to the following path: \\My Documents\Sim City4\Regions. (Typically, this path is under the C:\ drive path.)
3) Create a new folder naming it with the same name as the map to be downloaded. Note the name of the folder created.
4) Go back to the STEX, and click on the map link to open the Map Window.
5) Once the Map Window is opened, there typically is a picture of the map image and a picture of the config.bmp file.
6) To download the map image, click on the Download link to display the grayscale image for the map.
7) Right-mouse click on the image and select the "Save picture as..." choice.
8) Navigate to the region folder created in Step 3), above.
9) Save the grayscale map image in the region folder using the default name of the file.
10) In the top right-hand corner of the Map Window, click on the "Back" link.
11) If there is a Config.bmp link (not all map files have a config.bmp file), click on the link to open the File Download dialog box.

NOTE: Concerning config.bmp Files.
If the map being downloaded does not have a config.bmp file included, one must be created before installing the map. Please consult the Config.bmp: HowTo Make It Yours article for instructions on creating a config.bmp file.

12) In the FIle Download dialog box, click on the "Save" button.
13) Navigate to the region folder created in Step 3), above.
14) Ensure the file name is config.bmp then click on the "Save" button.
15) The map has been downloaded and saved to the computer.

Installing the Map Files into SimCity 4

16) Launch the SimCity 4 game.
17) From the Main Menu of SimCity 4, Click on "Load Region" and open an EXISTING region.
18) THEN click on "Load Region" and open the region created in Step 3), above.
19) The configuration of the the config.bmp is displayed.
20) On the keyboard, press and hold the following key combination: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R.

NOTE: Wireless Keyboards
Typically, wireless keyboards do not support more than three simultaneous key combinations. It will be necessary to use the appropriate key combination for the wireless keyboard being used to simulate the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R combination. The normal wireless keyboard combination to use is [Alt Gr] + Shift + R.

21 This will bring up the Grayscale Image File dialog box.
22) Browse to the folder created in Step 3), above.
23) Select the grayscale map image JPG file and click on the OK button.
24) SimCity 4 starts to render the region and a "Creating New City" screen appears.

BE PATIENT. Depending upon the size of the region, the number of city tiles and the speed of the computer, rendering of the region takes anywhere from five (5) minutes up to a number of hours to complete.

Can someone help me? In my residential map there is no demand for any industry at all for some reason(didn't used to be like this), so there is high unemployment and my pop keeps fluctuating between 50,000-65000. In the next tile there is loads of businesses, what can i do? I've got schools and hospitals in place already, some nice living areas etc.

How are your taxes, you can't expect to avoid dirty industry at start, you need it for jobs, in fact, I keep it throughout the game so my sims have more jobs :).

Make enough fast transportation to it ( highways, monorail etc...) Make sure the 2 cities are linked with each other.
Unless all the commercial buildings already have peopel working at them ??

Anyways there's no real advantage in separating commercial and residential zones, I just merge them on one tile... How would you feel if you had to drive 50 miles to go to tesco's ?

I've got schools and hospitals in place already, some nice living areas etc.

Well aside from the above advice I can't advice much, all I can say is make enough jobs and don't be afraid to zone dirty industry, and enough commercial stuff near the residential areas...

How is your RCI demand graph ( perhaps I can take a look, make a picture of it if you want) and have you done anything to the taxes? It's generally a bad idea to raise any tax higher than 9% at start...

Industry is capped by transport networks. Beef them up if you have them, such as better roads, trains, goods trains, seaports - that kind of thing. You should then notice some more interest in industry.

Ok i officially hate you all for starting this thread :)

Anyway hoping for some pointers.

This is my region at the moment 6 tiles, 1 largest tile for residential (200,000 pop atm), then i have 2 agricultural tiles and 2 industry tiles as well as onlarge commercial tile.

Region

Residential

Commercial

Industrial

So far i think ive been balancing the zones quite well but im noticing a good few buildings in the residential are going grey/abandoned and im guessing its due to the commute times from res to comm or ind zones.

Ive never been able to get mass transit working well be it trains, subway or buses whats the general advice to plan mass transit at the very start of the game or is it ok to tackle now that ive plenty of cash? Will it make a diff to the cities?

Next question in my industrial zones i cant really meet deman its through the roof but im not getting any high tech just dirty/manufacturing.

Is it ok to have cities like mine which are 100% res, 100% comm and 100% ind or do you need a little of each industry in each zone to suceed.

There's no point in doing public transport in most low density areas, but nonetheless, I place bus stops every block everywhere now and I use the oordinance ''commuter shuttle service'' to encourage public transport more...

plus it brings in a lot of money... i was supprised how my industry zone went from being in red by 1000 to being green by 1000

Well I'm up to 67 thousand people but the transport in my res area is horrific in areas, alost he connection to one of the industry ares, sorting it out seems to require massive rethinking :(
