A Tad Worried... What Do You Think?

Dear All,

I ran a website in 2003,2004 hosted with oneandone. This account was in someone else’s name, and used their debit card due to my age, and for reasons I am not going to talk about was locked in February 2005, with the cancellation of their cards, and my loss of contact with said person.

The website remained this way, until today I received an email stating that £77ish had been charged for 6 months hosting, and 2 years domain name. I logged into the account to check this as it should be pretty much impossible, and this was confirmed. The address given was one lived at 3 years ago, not now. The payment details are expired. It even tells me to update payment details as they cannot debit the account.

I checked the URL and sure enough the website is also up and running, exactly as it was when I left it, just wondering what you guys think has happened?

Could oneandone have made a mistake? Could they have found the person and had them pay by cheque or such?

I am just concerned, as I have my own account now with them, simply for domain names, and had until today left that old account, it did not belong to me as such. I have downloaded everything on the site to check for any clues, however nothing shows up.

Well as I say it is not in my name, so contacting them will no doubt result in a "We need the bill payer to give us permision to talk to you"

Correct, However I do have an account with them with all my details on. The only detail that related to me on this old account was my email address.
 
Well this is what I am thinking, I am just concerned that they say payment has been made, when I do not have contact with the account holder anymore, and the only reason the account existed was for my benifit.

You have not been charged for it, it is not in your name, your payment details were never on record, what exactly is the problem?

The account was in the other person's name, wasn't it? If so, then I don't see how the hosting company would make the link between the old account in that other person's name, and the new account in your name.

Am I missing something...?
 
Well, I just do not see how they could have taken payment, and wonder if they may have taken the payment from me by taking the details from my new account, granted I have had this account for 3 years now. But if they somehow traced the old account to me.... I would have thought this to be illegal however, taking payment from me for someone elses debt but I am a worrier.

For the love of god, the old account was not in your name, it was not your payment details on record, any payment would have come from the account holder, that is not you.
 
I already checked, but it takes a while for payments to be processed, its not like they go *INVOICE* *MONEY GONE*
