Which 50 inch Kuro?

just a quick note on stands again...

I noticed that the 5090 sold by JL does actually come with a swivel stand.. so....... yeah, dunno if that's standard or not... they certainly didn't make a point of saying that it's an included extra

Can't wait for bumtious to come round and calibrate my set, even more to get out of it :D

Out of interest, how much does he charge? :D

I've been out of the plasma "loop" for a while since buying a 507XD, but I noticed the LX5090 review on the Register the other day and started reading around on AVForums etc. I knew it was a bad idea, as I now want one.

Is there anything "just around the corner" which I should perhaps wait for?
The forthcoming KRP incarnation of the panel looks interesting (and very thin at only 65mm). The media box versions (500A/600A) also include a digital satellite tuner by the looks of it.

H Pioneer model have freesat tuners, not sure if the UK will get them. And news for the release data of KRP?

Doesn't seem like they can have an EPG or use a freesat tuner. The info over at avforums seems to suggest that panasonic have locked others out with their PZ81.

I could be wrong, but I remeber bumtious posting this after discussiong with a source.

steve (bumtious) will charge ~£300 for a calibration. It will take a number of hours depending on how many inputs you have calibrated, plus you will have day and night settings configured. Plus he won't leave until he is happy with how it is setup :D

Well the 508 (8G sets) were a massive improvement over your series of sets, so the 9G will be an even bigger leap.

That deal if it does include the swivel stand is excellent as it is RRP £180. But I can't recommend who bumtious works for highly enough, hassled them on the phone loads and spent about 10 hours down at their store over 2 weekends and was amazed, especially by their JVC projector setup :D

According to Pioneer:

KRP-500A - October
KRP-600A - September
KRP-500M - October
KRP-600M - August

From what I've seen so far the blacks on the 9G look fantasic, and despite nothing particulary bothering me about the 507XD I am definitely tempted to upgrade. I'll probably wait for the KRP-500M though as I don't need the built in tuners.

Apart from thinner screens what else do the KRP offer? I guess lighter as well?
In the past Pioneer monitors (MXE series) were usually more versatile with respect to input resolutions and frequencies (stuff like 1:1 pixel mapping at 50hz). I'm not sure whether that is still the case though.

1:1 not a problem with 1080p from video sources

I'd certainly hope so given that it's a 1080p panel ;)

but I'm not sure if the 5090 supports 1920x1080 from a computer, 1:1
Yeah, it's the computer applications where the monitor variant will be most useful - a 1920x1080 desktop would be quite something on that. The monitors can also be a better choice when pairing with an external scalar like a Lumagen or Crystalio I believe (I'm a little rusty on a lot of this - I did a lot of research prior to buying my 507XD, but nothing for the last 18 months).

The only reason I'm buying the Pioneer is because spending less buys crap. Had the Samsung M86, and A556 and both rubbish. Panasonic de-interlacing isn't working properly.

Don't forget the Pioneers do not come with speakers or stand, each £100-£200. So rather than spend £100 on a pedastal then buy a strong table I've just gone for a new complete freestanding plasma stand.

£270.

Damn you badbob - now you got me looking at those style stands :D

Was just looking at the 7even Systems Vertibra 1 - but tbh from what i've read its a bit 'style over substance' - poor build quality - and it's hard to fit many cables through the centre pole (hmm nice!)

What's the stand you posted and am i right in thinking that the ideal height is for you eyes to be 1/2 way up the screen?

That's a Origin S2a, but for 50" S4 are also suitable. S2 & S3 are for <50". But the base and shelves are rounded off with those. Your head needs to be roughly level with the middle of the screen, also ok if you have to look down. But not up, so don't fix it above the fireplace sort of height.

If you've got a fair number of audio seperates these stands aren't suitable, however for the Origin you could place the av amp on the base, with DVD and other light things on the glass shelves. I'm going to place a hifi table on the base to fit center speaker, dvd and sky box.

Hmm im going to have a fat Onkyo, Monitor Audio centre speaker, 360, PS3 and a SkyHD box, so i think im going to stick with a 'normal' optimum unit i think, none of those seem to have very wide shelves :S

Yup huge problem finding right unit, I need height adjustable plasma PLUS height adjustable center shelf. Another solution is to wall mount the plasma then buy a custom height av stand ie Apollo Mezzo Soprano. But I can't wall mount as the radiator is there. Then a low height standard av rack not deep enough. The only other solution is a Specktral, those are low plus have vesa mount but the one I want is £800- far too expensive.

If the MA speaker isn't too heavy the top glass shelf could be ok, I have a B&W CC6 which is a common size, will let you know how stable it is.

Cool thanks :)

As for wall mounting - at least my option there is clean-cut..... i have dry-walls! haha! I think putting a poster up on the wall would risk tearing 1/2 my flat down ;)

Back on topic: I think the KRP models have a different GUI to the 'standard' 9Gs... i remember seeing that they use the same style as the 8Gs (XP style) as opposed to the 9G which look more like Vista (dark/glossy etc).

If I wait until the new KRP models come out in the UK do you think there will be reductions on the 5090 at all?

Can some please tell me what the difference is between the PDP-5080XD (whic i can get for £1800) PDP-508XD ( which i can get for £1500)

It seems the PDP-508XD has more on it but it's cheaper which i'm puzzled at?

Are they both the same pannels and picture quality?

This is pulling my hair out at the moment

Thanks..

Same panel and electronic, but 508XD has ISF calibration function.

So i'd be better really going for the 508XD as i don't need stand or speakers as it's going on the wall and i have amp for sound.

I just wanted to make sure the pannels were the same and no quality was lost.

Been doing my head in all day long this!!!!
