(posted elsewhere but got no reply - trying here...)

I want to connect PS3 and PC to my dell 2407 - via DVI.

i bought a dvi splitter from the bay - but it dont turn on with either connected.

Anybody else connected both up this way ?

I saw your other post - if you brought that cable, you didn't buy the right item.

That cable is for if you want to display one input on two outputs (For example, displaying the same PS3 on two monitors)

I have my PS3 and PC connected via DVI using a DVI switch.

Dell 2407 - > DVI Switch

DVI Switch:
- > PC
- > DVI-HDMI - > PS3

Hope that makes sense :p

lol - good job it was only a fiver... can you email me which switch you got mate... there loads varying in price.

I just use VGA for my computer and DVI for the PS3 (DVI-HDMI converter). I really couldnt tell the difference between VGA & DVI on my computer. (2407 btw).

ok I bought the DVI switch box from the auction site.

Ps3 : HDMI > DVI > switch box
PC : DVI > switch box

Output from switch box > DVI input on Dell 2407

Flicked on A for the PC and started it up = fine : shut it down.
Flicked B on the switch ... started PS3 - no picture :(

Any ideas ?!
it just goes into power save mode and I dont see anything... (checked with the TV on again ... and its fine ... so the PS3 is ok.)

while testing on the tv again... I checked all the display modes.... unchecked them except 1080i.... then tried 1080p..... still the same.

Is there a wrong HDMI > DVI cable to get for the PS3 ????

Do you do a settings reset on the PS3 each time? This forces the PS3 to auto detect what its connected to ( well video). This can be done by resetting the PS3 and holding down the reset button for 5 seconds ish or until the PS3 double beeps. Also make sure only the hdmi cable is connected and not any other video cable, as that may confuse the issue.

normally mine detects an hdmi cable and asks if i want to switch to that source without needing to reset the settings
but maybe try resetting them as said above
forgot to say i normally have it still connected to the tv via the composite cable and it displays on tv asking if i want to switch to hdmi

So I assume you have tried plugging the PS3 into the diplay and it al works fine, in that case it would point to the switcher. As Nanoman said your switcher might only be switching DVI-I which is esentially VGA over a DVI cable, the PC is capable of both DVI-D and DVI-I so you wouldn't be able to tell as it normally does this automatically.

Is the DVI box digital? Maybe DVI-I, in which case DVI to HDMI wouldnt work.

DVI-I is actually both Digital AND analogue. DVI-A is analogue only, DVI-D digital only.

Cheers, I actually wondered what the I stood for, as it was more obvious with digital DVI being DVI-D.

And the DVI on the 2407 is DVI-D IRC.

I dont think it is as you can use a VGA to DVI converter with it.

Hmm im after the same thing for my PS3 and PC setup... Can anyone pass on some info on what i should be searching for?

It gets very annoying disconnecting the PC / PS3 every now and then.

Cheers

ok tried the reset switch.... well holding the power button on the PS3 for a few seconds... (I gather this resets the video settings?).... it beeps turns on ... then beeps again.... no picture.

the switch I bought is this one ... (dont think Im breaking a rule with this link - correct me if Im wrong...)
http://www.hqproducts.com/eng/products/audiovideo/dviconnection/page_3/artl_AVSWITCH-10

anyways it states on the site.... DVI-I
I gather this is the problem...

Just gonna try the cable straight to monitor from PS3.

hmmmm it dont work straight from the (PS3) HDMI > DVI cable > 2407.

Is there a wrong HDMI to DVI cable to get ?
The pins are the same on the DVI end as the one Im using from my PC to 2407.

ok looking at my cable... dvi end... pin arrangement is like this :

1 horizontal pin
3 x 3 grid of vertical pins
2 x 2 rows of no pins
3 x3 grid of vertical pins.

is this correct DVI ?
looking on the net there seems to be some with all the pins... some like the one I got.

What have you guys got ?
TIA
