Hi everyone,

I want a CPU for my new build;

MSI P35 Diamond
2GB 1333mhz DDR3
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme/OCZ Freeze paste
OCZ 600W PSU
Thermaltake Kandalf.

I use my pc mainly for games, sometimes video conversion and have no problems overclocking a cpu, thus the 120 extreme.

I want to try and keep a lowish budget so atm i'm considering an E8400 from a competitor? I'm only concerned that a Q6600 would be more futureproof for the same price ...
thanks!

12p :eek:

Well in that case £40.12 for the pair is workable. As for the CPU, I'd be in favour of the Q6600 if you are really worried about future-proofing, tho they'll be plenty of others who'll champion a dual-core as it'll likely clock far further. The E8500 should drop to about the same price as the E8400 is now within a couple of days too.

Was tempted myself by the 'quad' but decided , in end, that the 8400 would suit my needs better.

Use pc for surfing and , mostly, gaming so didn't see any great advantage in buying the quad. The 8400 runs very cool and quick at stock but I hope to start pushing it a bit over next few days (hoping for 3.6 - not too bothered about hitting any higher - running with air cooling)

I've read that very few games have been written or are due out in the next year or so that will utilise 4 cores so my descision was to leave buying a quad for 1yr+ and enjoy the faster 8400 now.

I upgraded from Opteron 185 and have only owned for bit less than a week but the speed increase is very good and so far it's living up to my expectations :)

I'm NOT recomending the 8400 over the quad - your choice should I believe depend on what you use your pc for, how long you think you would keep the Cpu for and which of the various views of future game etc development you choose to believe.:D

Personally only regret I have is that I should have waited for the 'due' price cut before I bought :o
