There is now a cheap device available from Blizzard through the european online shop to add an extra layer of security to the login process to WoW and you account management details.

http://eu.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=221003132

It costs about 4 GBP and another 8 GBP for courier delivery. The site is frequently sold out so you need to keep trying.

I got mine within 3 days of ordering.

Setup was trivially easy and worked immediately.

Basically each device has a unique serial number (allegedly) and based on the serial number the device generates a different number every minute. The logon servers know the algorithm, know the serial number associated with my account and can therefore work out what number my device is displaying at any time. I need to enter that number after user-id and password to get onto WoW

I feel a lot safer now.

Just don't set your password to "worldofwarcraft" and then download and install "OMGParisHiltonNEKKID.exe".

That way you can save a fiver.

installmesoicantakecontrolofyourwowaccount.exe

Its just a VPN tool. Good idea for those who are unsure of any other passwords than

wow
worldofwacraft
rogue
shaman
warrior
paladin
druid

You laugh but I bet reasons like that are the cause of >80% of account hijacks.

I think it's a good idea. If you're certain that your PC is secure, don't buy it. If you're in a position where you play regularly on public access PCs, this is a good thing to have.

I'd probably get one if they were under three quid and I could pick one up on the high street.

My WoW password was found out by someone, secure password and I always keep my computer 100% clean, honestly never found out how they got it.

My account was worth a fair bit so i was annoyed, I just quit the game after I got the account back, never even asked the GMs for my items back, couldnt be bothered.

Back when I hardcored the game I would have bought that. I bet it will be backwards engineered soon though.

It's not a mickey mouse system. It's used by governments and major industry for securing access to their multi billion pound intellectual properties. It won't be broken by people looking to make £200 selling hacked WoW account gold.

Right, so Blizzard can't be bothered to implement something as simple as a secure password checker, and charge you for extra security?

I believe this is an RSA SecureID keyfob, which as an RSA Certified SecurID engineer I can heartily recommend.

It doesn't matter how secure you think your PC is - if you are running Windows you are at risk as its the single most hacked OS out there and the exploits tend to be around for a short while before the AV programs detect them.

Get one of these fobs and it doesn't matter if they get your WoW password - its not enough to log into your accounts.

Its funny how many people say things like "oh i dont need that, im not an idiot" but ive known people far more computer savvy than i bet you are, and they said the same.... untill they got hacked. Ive been really suprised at the sort of people ive known to get hacked, people i wouldnt have expected, you might be equally suprised when it happens to you.

Have to say I am at the same time angered, saddened and amused at the arrogance, ignorance and stupidity of some of the posters in here.

I have been in IT since 1983, supporting PCs and networks in a wide variety of roles since 1989, and i can assure you few people have a PC as clean and secure and carefully looked after as mine - and yet back in late 2005 my original WoW account was hacked and wrecked and I gave up playing. I restarted last xmas and after many, many hundreds of hours played this year I dread being hacked again.

This little device has removed most of that ongoing fear.

I hope the over confident people posting here never come to grief with their WoW account - it will emotionally gut you.

Oh, and Jihad, I don't like being called a retard by implication. When you are driving along the motorway in your car, assuming you are old enough to drive, I expect you spend all your facing out of the back window, confident in your safety because you haven't hit anything yet.
