What sequels ruined a film franchise?

You were a child when matrix came out so have lower expectations, a bit of CG/action and rate it as excellent movie.

The idea of the matrix was great. I think Keanu just made me fall asleep with his wooden acting, which in turn ruined the movie.

Starwars 1-3 were prequels :D

Starwars 3 was a decent movie ;)

Regardless of how good/bad 1-3 are anyway they don't change the fact 4-6 are quality :p Esp Ep5, one of if not the best sequels ever made, and one of the finest movies ever made

Jurrasic Park 2

The first was simply amazing but the second was too long and had that stupid bit at the end with the Dinosaurs in New York or wherever it was.

Jurrasic Park 3 wasn't bad, it just got to the dinosaurs eating things straight away and stayed with that. Of course there was the unfortunate storyline as well but it was still better than two, or maybe my expectations were just a lot lower.

Surprised Indianna Jones hasn't been mentioned yet. I thought the latest was a good addition to the series but an awful lot of people thought it was complete rubbish.

Oh come on, The Matrix is almost universally accepted as being amazing by people of all ages. Yes I'm 20 too, but please, my 50 year old parents also loved it. Of course you're entitled to your opinion but calling someone wrong because they were a 'child' is quite unnecessary, patronising and quite frankly makes you sound archaic.

I volunteer we extend this to initial films too - just watching Fantastic 4 - Rise of the Silver Surfer and realised I wish they hadnt made the first one...

The story in the matrix is so good it overshadows everything else in the movie. Its a film where good acting isn't needed to become engrossed because the movie itself is so mind boggling.

Alien 3 and 4.

I disagree....Resurrection was indeed PAP, but I hold Alien 3 in almost as high regard as the first two. Fincher did an amazing job on that movie with the visuals alone, and the Directors Cut (available in the Quadrilogy set) walks all over the theatrical version.

Someone did mention the Star Wars sequels/prequels and they were indeed AWFUL. Absolutely destroyed the series.

And who can forget HIGHLANDER 2, indeed! Thanks for the reminder, ElvisFan! You've brought back memories akin to childhood abuse!!

Spiderman 3 (just crap).
Alien 3/4.
T3 (Although who cares, does anyone even count anything past T2 as part of the Terminator universe?).
Matrix sequels (The potential was there, but after what we got, the original works better as a standalone film).
The Batman sequels (Though maybe we wouldn't have got such high quality films now if the series hadn't hit such lows).
The later Bond movies (As above).

How can people say Police Academy, 1-6 are essentially the same film. 7 was where it went **** :p.

I, for some reason, think the first and second are as good as each other - the second definitely showed more bravado and the whole 'bigger is better'. I just love the 'Hmmm upgrades' scene at the start...

I actually agree, I get slated for it on a regular basis but I love the second just as much as the first, the CGI bits are a bit dodgy but the fights are superb, especially the staircase fight in the mansion.

My vote is Return of The King, the trilogy was great until then.

The Godfather 2

a bit surprising tbh - I thought 2 was even better than the first (3 was a little harsh though). Not very often where a sequel out-does things. maybe empire-strikes-back - and now Dark Knight.

Spiderman 3 was dreadful though - that entire "Pimp-my-Spidey" sequence was utterly cringeworthy!!"!"!11!

Thinking about it is there any film franchise that has a consistently high quality!? LoTR and Ghost busters are the only ones for me I think.
