Hi all,

Basically this is my first build for about 4years now so I am so out of touch it's unreal. Anyway after doing some reading and following some advice I have settled on the following upgrades. Any changes or advice would be mucho welcomed :)

I don't do any video stuff or multi task much but I do like my gaming, only RTS stuff liek AOE3 and never play shoot em up style games( make me physically sick lol all that motion haha )

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB)

Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express)

Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2 (OCZ2P10664GK)

After some advice from others I decided to look at a 4870 instead of the 4850 but I also needed to reduce the budget so I altered the following.

Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

and this allows me to choose a 4870 card, no idea on which one yet.

Any help is much appreciated guys.

Thanks in advance

seems fine to me, 4870 is better than 4850 obviously but will cost more so you gotta weigh it up. gpu's get old fast so dont be phased by having a less powerful card than the best atm cos it will soon get old.

I think you have chosen well, as for card id get either of the Gainward, Sapphire or Powercolor HD 4870 cards, depending on your preferred brand choice. Powercolor cards are fine and there the cheapest too so id orobably just get that.

I would grab 4850 as for now if you aint resolution + 8MSAA freak.

4850 does just fine in all the new games in 1680x1050 and mostly in 1920x1200 as well.

And then if it gets not good enough in 6months you can just get new one, by that time there will be better cards for a lot smaller price.

So if 4850 will do fine for next 6-12months why waste money on something more powerfull if you dont need it.

I would pick decent x38 mobo instead tbh.

I did think along those lines briefly early on, infact I was looking at the X48 boards but then I thought why?? I am never going to crossfire it so is it worth getting? Would I be better getting one decent 4870 card and that may last me a year or two with the limited games I play. Or am I talkign rubbish lol

thanks again for the help guys
